Chunmei's POV
The next morning, I wake up to the sound of my alarm ringing. I turn it off, trying to remember why I even set an alarm in the first place.
Then my brain decides to finally remember what I was trying to do with waking up early, and scramble out of bed.
Last night, I decided that something was really off about Chunli. I wanted to figure it out. And, I also didn't want to be left at home alone all day again while she went off on her secret job.
Thus, I have to be awake when she leaves for work or else I'm gonna be in the same situation as I've been in for the past few days.
"Yes, I'll be there today. I have everything ready. Yes," I hear her saying out in the living room. What is she talking about?
"Chunli, where are you going today?" I ask, rubbing my eyes and yawning as I shut my door behind me.
"C-Chunmei?" she stutters, turning around as if she's been caught doing something that I shouldn't know about.
"Where are you going today?" I repeat, approaching her slowly.
"None of your business, go stay in your room," she immediately answers, rudely flipping her hair and grabbing her purse.
"Wait a minute, you can't do this again," I gasp, realizing that she's about to leave again. What is wrong with this person who's supposedly my sister?
"There's money on the counter so you don't starve, even though you're not grateful for it at all. Entertain yourself," Chunli orders, pulling on her shoes.
"No, you have to tell me what you're doing," I insist, blocking the door so she can't get out. "I'm not moving until you tell me."
"I'm going to be late for work because of you!" she shrieks angrily. "Why don't you just go be lazy and sleep all day like you usually do?"
"Actually, I've been studying and attempting to find a way to survive in this country that I know nothing about," I correct her.
"Then go do that! Get away from the door, I actually have to go," she sighs angrily. I don't know why she's so triggered all of a sudden, and I intend to find out.
"Can you at least tell me something about what you do all day while I stay here and drown in self pity?" I sigh, feeling my patience run dangerously low.
"Okay, I'm a stylist, and I'm going to pick up some clothes for the people who I'm dressing today. Good enough?"
Without waiting for an answer, she pushes me aside and stomps out the door. Okay then. I already knew half of the information that she just told me, but I guess that's all I'm getting.
I sit on the floor where she threw me, trying to regroup and think about what I should do with my life.
I guess that there's only one thing for me to do if I don't want to starve to death. I pick myself up and return to my room to get ready.
I can only pray that Sicheng will be there.
