Mistakes and Redemptions...Not Necessarily in That Order

A few days later, Sadie slowly opened her eyes to blinding white. She groaned. 'The hospital wing again?' she thought. Then, the memories flashed through her head. She struggled to sit up, hoping that she would find Harry and her mother.

Harry was still unconscious in the bed across the room, and Minerva was merely asleep in the bed next to Sadie. Sadie giggled lightly, thinking about how those two practically needed their own beds in the Hospital Wing. About a minute later, Poppy came out of her office. She spotted Sadie and came over.

"Oh, good. You're awake. Harry hasn't woken up yet..."

"Is Mum alright? Has she woken up yet?" Sadie asked frantically.

"She's fine. She just has a slight concussion. You've been out for three days, child. Your mother has been very worried. I am happy to say, however, that you managed to save the stone." She then swatted Sadie on the arm. "But what on earth were you thinking?! You could have died down there!"

"If I hadn't gone, Mum would have died! Or she could have been severely hurt! I wasn't about to let that happen, now was I?" Sadie retorted. She could see that Poppy couldn't exactly argue with that one.

"I could have very well taken care of myself, Kitten. You know that," Minerva's voice said. Sadie turned and jumped out of bed, ignoring Poppy's protests. She pounced on her mother, who caught the girl in her arms and hugged her. "What on earth were you thinking, following me down there?"

"The necklace was glowing. If you got hurt and I didn't go down there, I would have beat myself up thinking that I could have done something about it. By going down there, I could have at least said I tried to help!" Sadie replied sadly, pulling out her necklace.

Minerva smiled, pulling out her necklace as well. "I don't check mine very often. Usually, if you're in trouble, I'm there, or I already know."

"Same, but tonight was a special occasion. I really didn't want you to get hurt, but I guess it couldn't have been prevented. At least it wasn't as bad as it could have been, though," Sadie pointed out.

Minerva nodded, squeezing her daughter tightly. "Tomorrow night's the End of the Year Feast. Poppy said that she would let us go to that."

"End of the Year? As in...no more school?" Sadie didn't know whether she should be happy or upset.

"Yes. And by the way, Severus isn't too happy with you."

"No, I am not!" Severus strode into the Hospital Wing. "What were you thinking? I was worried sick! Did you not think of the repercussions of your actions?"

"Dad, we had to stop Quirrell!"

"Minerva was already on his case and is quite capable!"

"She was in danger! She could have died!"

"So, by putting yourself in danger, you think you were helping anything? Not to mention you brought along three first years, one of which the Dark Lord and his servants would love to see dead? How exactly is that helping?"

Minerva sighed. "Severus, please..."

"Shut it, Minerva. Sadie, that is the most irresponsible thing you could have done. This school is full of teachers. Could you have not asked one of them to go help Minerva?"

"Dad, do you honestly think that if I had gone to one of the teachers, if I had gone to you, that you would have believed me? You would have told me that Mum was more than capable. I know Mum is talented. I grew up with her. I just don't want my mother to get hurt! She is the most important thing in my life other than Harry. And I would gladly die for her!"
