"The human fear of rejection served an important purpose, as does all fear. Our ancient predecessors used this reaction as a form of..." The lecturer drawled on in his, forever, monotone voice.
Itachi found his mind drift back to Shisui. He had successfully moved in – and Itachi felt himself smile at the fact that Shisui only slept in Itachi's room. Every night they would curl up with each other. Itachi found Shisui's warmth and heartbeat to be the ultimate lullaby. He also discovered that Shisui was an early bird – and sometimes that irritated a barely awake Itachi.
There were perks though, waking up to Shisui bringing him tea. Seeing Shisui at all in the mornings was the ultimate perk, Itachi realised.
You can daydream later, focus on the lecture – Itachi's mind scolded him.
He snapped back to his notes. Currently he was in his psychology lecture, learning about the reaction and evolution of fear.
"That's all for today. Please prepare chapter forty three for tomorrow's lecture", the lecturer announced as students immediately began piling out.
"Dammit", Itachi mumbled in frustration – he had zoned out half of the lecture. Maybe Kakashi took notes for once, or could at least tell him what was generally covered.
He hurriedly packed up and made his way to the back of the hall – immediately spotting the white haired male. Kakashi was talking casually with Obito.
"Kakashi", Itachi greeted with a sheepish smile, "I zoned out half of the lesson...can you maybe tell me what happened?"
"Sure", Kakashi responded.
"KAKASHI!" A woman called from the opposite side of the hall.
"One sec, Itachi. I'll be right back", Kakashi said as he put a hand on Obito's shoulder and walked over to the waving woman to see what she needed.
Itachi looked at Obito who looked at Itachi. His black orbs held...fury.
"Hi, Obi-"
"He told me what you did, how you treated him", Obito spat. He took a step closer to Itachi, "You're a disgusting person."
Itachi was taken aback by the sudden animosity, "I- what?"
"Leave him alone from now on, Itachi", Obito threatened.
"Kakashi is my friend", Itachi defended himself, "I'm not just going to leave him beca-"
Itachi's head whipped to the side as Obito's fist made contact with his cheek, busting his lip open. Itachi stumbled back in shock.
"Do I make myself clear now?" Obito snarled.
Itachi looked at Obito in shock, his lip stinging and the taste of blood invading his mouth. A dull ache started throbbing in his jaw. Obito didn't so much as spare Itachi another glance as he walked away in Kakashi's direction.
Itachi decided it wouldn't be wise to wait for Kakashi – he would just go without the notes. The last thing he needed was to cause a fight between Kakashi and Obito – he wanted Kakashi to be happy.
Itachi quietly made his way out of the hall and began his walk home.

Itachi paused at his front door. He knew – he knew with his bones – he should be happy to be home. A safe, welcoming and warm place. His brother lived there...but so did Shisui.
And he didn't want to worry Shisui – he didn't want to make the older male angry. He didn't want to mess up...again. So his sanctuary of a home, turned into a stressful chess game. He needed to somehow cover his busted lip – maybe if he pressed his lips into a hard line and didn't talk, Shisui wouldn't see it immediately.
