Itachi sat in the living room, Kakashi's book sat unattended on the coffee table.
Itachi stared intently at the book. It was beckoning, whispering for him to open it up and dive into Kakashi's world. He was excited to discover a whole new world - yet he was afraid at the same time, skeptical. He reached for the book with slightly trembling hands.
As he was about to make contact with the novel there was a knock on his door.
Itachi rose from the sofa and made his way over to the door gently.
Outside stood Shisui, his ever present smile etched onto his lips.
"Hey, sorry I didn't walk with you today - Konan was peculiarly clingy today."
"Did you ever question how he got so good at it?" Kakashi's words echoed in his mind.
Shisui came inside when Itachi made no move to stop him - after all, Itachi was in a stupor.
Itachi gently closed the door and made his way to the sofa when Shisui gently grabbed his wrist, "I missed you" and Shisui leaned in for a kiss.
Something overcame Itachi and he backed away. Shisui immediately recoiled - hurt crossed his boyish face. His eyebrows furrowed and his smile faltered.
"What's wrong?" Shisui asked in concern.
Itachi had to bite his tongue - he didn't want to overreact. He placed on his calm facade and broke free of Shisui's grip.
"Nothing", Itachi answered stoicly.
Itachi returned to sitting on the sofa and drew his legs to his chest. He felt uncomfortable around Shisui now. He felt... wrong.
He felt betrayed. Itachi knew these were unfounded feelings. But that didn't lessen their impact.
"Hey, hey, Itachi, what's wrong?" Shisui asked in clear concern.
And that concern prompted Itachi to voice his burning questions.
"Have you ever been with someone else... intimately?"
Shisui looked taken aback. It was silent for a few seconds. But those seconds ticked by extremely slowly. Itachi could sense a reluctance on Shisui's part. The tension was becoming palpable - and so was Itachi's anger.
"Once... Yes." Shisui answered softly. His eyes now diverted themselves to the floor - scanning his shoes.
Itachi's heart dipped - albeit slightly.
"Who was he?" Itachi asked thickly. He mustered up all he could to prevent a tear from slithering down his cheek.
This time, Shisui didn't answer.
Itachi felt the wave of betrayal flood through him.
His voice became unstable, "You were my first everything... And now you're telling me that I was just a replacement? Your attempt to chase the feelings you felt with this person?!" He couldn't remember at which point his voice rose.
Anger flashed through Shisui's features - something Itachi had never seen before. This was true anger.
"What does it matter?! I'm with you now! What does my past matter?!" Shisui tried to withhold his yelling as much as possible.
"Because you should have told me!" Itachi screeched.
Itachi saw Shisui's eyes land on the book on the coffee table. His anger only increased.
"I know what this is about! Kakashi said something, didn't he?!" Shisui jumped up and grabbed the book on the coffee table, "What the hell is this?!"
Itachi jumped up and snatched the book from Shisui, "A present that has nothing to do with you!" Itachi yelled.
"Oh my God, Itachi! Can't you see what he's doing?! He's trying to drive a wedge between us because he wants to be with you!"
"Now you're just displacing the blame Shisui. Kakashi didn't ditch me today, didn't leave me alone and drove me home in the rain when you were off doing God knows what with Konan!"
"WE WERE JUST TALKING!" Shisui yelled.
Anger coursed through Itachi. A violent, vein-burning anger.
"GET OUT!" Itachi yelled - not bothering to disguise his tears now. Angry water leaked from his eyes freely.
"Itachi, please don't do this. I want to be with you, but Kakashi is trying to tear us apart!"
"NO, SHISUI! YOU TORE US APART WHEN YOU FAILED TO TELL ME THAT YOU SLEPT WITH SOMEONE ELSE! THAT ALL THESE MOMENTS WE SHARED WAS JUST RECYCLING!"
Shisui moved to pull Itachi into a hug and the mere thought of Shisui's hands touching Itachi made Itachi feel dirty. He backed away from Shisui yet again.
"Get out", Itachi's coldness returned.
Once again anger flared on Shisui's face before he turned around and stormed out of the house - slamming the door behind him.
Itachi clutched the book to his chest and ran upstairs to his room. He jumped onto his bed and curled into a ball - tears ran down his face.
And then he started sobbing. His body wracked with each sob. He was so confused, so betrayed, so hurt. He wished he could call Kakashi, hoping it would calm him down.
But he didn't have Kakashi's number.
And so, he buried himself in his blankets and fell into a restless sleep - anything to escape his overwhelming emotions.

School was like any day - except this time it was burdened with the same feeling of dread and anger. He didn't want to see Shisui, he didn't want to talk to Shisui.
There was a laugh between some of the students that had already arrived and he recognized it as Shisui's. He slyly look behind him and Shisui sat with Konan and a few other people.
Joyously laughing.
The anger surged within Itachi again. It burned his chest and he clenched his fists under he table.
A chair pulled out next to him, "Yo", Kakashi said simply.
Itachi took a breath of relief - he needed Kakashi right now.
"Can we go to your secret spot at lunch? I'd rather avoid the cafeteria today."
"Of course", Kakashi responded easily.

Itachi refrained from talking about his fight with Shisui. Even though Kakashi tried to pry it out of him.
They pulled up to Itachi's driveway and before Itachi got out he remembered something.
But Kakashi beat him to it, "Would it be okay if I asked you for your number?" He asked sheepishly.
Itachi smiled for the first time that day, "I was about to ask you for yours!"
Itachi input his number into Kakashi's phone and handed it back to him.
"Thanks again for the ride Kakashi", Itachi mumbled shyly.
Kakashi smiled his boyish smile, "Anytime."
Itachi got out of the car and unlocked his front door.
