Katniss POV
So..lets start out simple. My name's Katniss Everdeen. I'm 21 years old. I'm a nerd. I wear glass, you know..them nerd glasses everybody thinks is cute. I go to Jabberjay Collage. So far I'm studying History mostly. And yeah, thats it. Well...a little sum up of me. I'm not that special. Anyway, I leave my last class, reading so I make my way down the hallway. I head down to my floor and my dorm. I open the door to see Annie, sitting on her bead reading.
"Hey! Katniss. How was reading?" she asks sitting up. I shrug and set down my bag.
"Good, I guess. Like always." I say sitting down at my desk. She nods and goes back to reading. I pull out my homework, getting to work.
"You know, you work to much." she says. I sigh and push my glasses back up in place.
"What?" I ask turning to look to her.
"You get up, go to class, learn, come back, do homework, study, go to bed and start over again." she says. "You should go out and do somethings."
"There's nothing to do." I say looking back to my books.
"There are parties every weekend Katniss. I can take you to one." she says standing up and walking over to me.
"Nah...I'm not into parties." I say. She sighs and sits down next to me. Unlike most, Annie is one of those people you can really talk to. She cares for you and understands if you have problems. All around a great friend.
"Come on, I'll be with you. So will Clove." she says making me smile slightly.
"Fine, alright. I guess maybe once." I say making her smile
"Awesome! Saturday is the next party." she says jumping up. "I'm gonna get you all dressed up and ready!" I roll my eyes at her silliness. I do like Annie but its hard to accept her as a friend when I never had one. Just then the door opens and Clove walks in.
"Hey guys, I passed my test with an...."
"Katniss is going with us to a party!" Annie says. Her jaw drops and she looks at me.
"Really?" she asks. I sigh and nod making her squeal like a little girl. "OMG! Its gonna be sooooo much fun!"
"Oh god...." I say turning back to my homework. "Where is it?"
"Oh..uhh..I think its in the Dwellers House." Annie says.
"Its that like..the craziest group on campus?" I ask making them smile. "And you wanna take me there?"
"Yes! What better party to start with then the best?!" Annie says. I roll my eyes and sigh. I really don't wanna go but for the sake of them being happy I will. "We'll pick out your clothes and everything!"
"Ahhh..okay but can I please finish my homework?" I ask. They nod and I turn back to my desk. Soon after I'm done and getting ready to take a shower. Luckily we all have our own bathrooms so I can just stay here. I take a quick one then I sit on my bed, reading when Clove walks in.
"Hey, I got a question." she says sitting down. I set my book down and nod. "What do you think of Cato?"
"Cato Swords?" I ask. She nods. "Umm...what should I think? He's popular and good looking. Thats pretty much it."
"You think....do you think I have a chance with him?" she asks.
"Clove..I really really wanna say yes but..you know Cato. He only wants the popular girls. The kinda girl he can really show off, you know?" I say.
"Yeah...I know. But at least you told the truth." she says.
"Maybe someday Clove, okay?" I say patting her shoulder. She smiles and nods, getting up and walking over to her bed. "But, you have the same classes as I?"
Yup, all the same. We can hang out tomorrow." she says making me smile. I get back to reading before falling asleep.
~The Next Morning~
Loud shouting and laughing in the hallway wakes me up. I sit up to see Annie and Clove still asleep. I rub my sleepy eyes before grabbing my glasses and sliding them on. I get out of bed and walk to the bathroom, washing up a little then walking out to see its only 7:30. Our class doesn't start till 10.
"Clove?" I say. She groans and turns over to look at me. "You want something to eat?" she nods and closes her eyes again. I nod and turn, walking over to Annie and shaking her. She jumps abit and opens her eyes to see me. "Eat?"
"Yeah..sure..anything you like." she says laying back down. I nod and leave the room, walking down the half crowded hallway down to the cafeteria where every bodies getting breakfast. We can eat in our rooms which is cool. I get what I need on one tray and make my way back up to my dorm. I open the door, kicking it shut waking them up.
"Oh..your back already?" Clove says sitting up. I set it down on the desk and look up to her crazy bedhead.
"Yeah..I'm back already." I say sitting down. We eat, get washed up and dressed then we leave the room. Annie leaves for her class while I walk to English with Clove. "Excited?"
"Oh sure!" she says as we sit down. "Who wouldn't be excited for English?"
"Nobody!" I say making her smile Soon the room has filled and we're waiting for the professor. As we sit a books hits me in the back of the head knocking my glasses off and away from me. My vision goes blurry as I get down and look for them.
"Woah, you looking for these?" I look up only to see a figure. He hands me my glasses and I put them on to see...Peeta Mellark? He smiles and reaches out so I take his hand. He pulls me to my feet and picks up the book. "I'm really sorry about that. My friends stole it then lost grip. It fell down here."
"Oh..no thats okay. I'm fine." I say looking down. Its so..odd that he's talking to me. I mean, I've had a crush on him since I got here but never really paid much mind to him either..
"Why don't we...like..hand out..at a party some time? To make up for that." he says. I smile and nod.
"I am going to the Dweller party on Saturday." I say making him smile.
"Me too, we're meet there and hang out, good?" he says.
"Good." I say. He smiles again and nods, heading up the stairs to his spot. I rub the back of my head and sit back down.
"OMG...he talked to you..what he say?" Clove asks.
"I'm going to hang out with him at the party." I say. She squeals and hugs me tightly.
"You and Peeta Mellark...this is gonna be soooo goood." she says. Maybe..this is my chance to become normal and to have a chance at friends.
