"Hi Peter." Claudia's smooth voice cut through the chaos of morning stops at lockers. The late bell rang, signaling third period class and making everyone scurry off. Claudia pulled my backpack as I turned my back to her.
"Where are you going?" She asked dreamily. Without warning she pinned me to the lockers and pressed herself to me, passionately kissing me. I pulled away, wiping my lips and pushing her away. Ew!
Victor walked past, shoving me into a locker.
"What were you doing with my girlfriend?!" Me?! ME?! She was the one that got all sexual with me! I left his grasp and turned him, now pinning HIM to the locker.
"I didn't start anything with your disgusting girlfriend." I stated, turning my back and hurriedly walking to class.
"Don't ever get near me again." I said sharply as I walked past Claudia who wore her rather convincing face of innocence. I was disgusted.
"You're late." My bitter English teacher greeted.
"I know." I greeted back, making no eye contact with her and walking back to my seat.
"Hey, dude, you alright?" My best friend Mitch asked patting me on the back.
"Yeah." I sighed.
"You don't seem like it. And you were late to class."
"Claudia Snow made me late."
"What happened?" Mitch asked the question I was dreading to answer. Embarrassed, I answered him.
"Well you're screwed. Victor's gonna hate you for the rest of your high school life."
"Thanks Mike." I answered knowing how true this was.
We walked into music class and grabbed our instruments. I sat near the piano while Mitch grabbed one of the school's guitars and pulled a pick from his pocket.
"Are you coming on Saturday?" I asked.
"Yeah sure. Who else is coming?"
"Oh, well I invited this girl Audrey...she might bring a friend or two..." I hesitated to say.
"'This girl'?" Mitch asked using air quotes.
"I've ran into her a couple times. She seems cool. And we text a lot."
"So you're inviting me so it's less awkward?"
"Yes-- well, no. Why would it be awkward?" I tried to remember that we were just friends. I tried to treat her like I would a guy, but that never stuck.
"Well, you haven't properly
met yet, she's a girl and you're a guy...."
"Okay yeah sure maybe a little bit for that reason. But I also just want us all to get to know each other..." I admitted.
"YOU want to get o know HER better." He corrected, elbowing me in the stomach. I guess he was right.
"Okay everyone let's get started! We have to practice as much as we can for the Christmas dance!" Our music teacher clapped his hands and got our attention. As we began playing, I couldn't help but daydream a bit about the Christmas dance. If I'd go, and who I'd bring and if I'd dance...
