The bright lights flashed creating patterns of all colors and shapes on my face as I waiting to find someone I knew. The Warehouse was packed with people I didn't know an a couple faces I recognized from school. As I stared at the main doorway waiting for Amber and Ronnie, I saw a group of prissy girls enter wearing way too short dresses that looked like a sequin monster threw up on. They obviously didn't understand that you wear Halloween costumes to Halloween parties. I dug my necklace out from under my costume and twirled the lucky die placed around my neck, hoping I wasn't all alone and the only one in a costume.
My waiting stare toward the doorway was interrupted by a reflection. A figure about two heads taller than me stood across the room, staring at the doorway just as I was. He turned his head, having felt the burn of my looking eyes on the back of his neck, and looked at me. I quickly turned my glance, trying to look casual.
Two familiar figures came through the doorway; Amber and Ronnie. We greeted each other with "Happy Halloween!"s and melted over each others awesome costumes. Ronnie had on a costume titled "The Shady Doctor" and wore a doctor's coat with fake blood all over it. The front pocket of the coat held several shady, pointy objects. Amber's costume tied in for she was the "Slutty Nurse". Amber wore a nurse's outfit, cut short to far above her knee, almost as short as the prissy girls' dresses. She wore black fishnet tights and high heeled black leather boots that only Amber could dance in-- nonetheless walk in. As for me, I went as a classic: a zombie. I wore a colonial black and white dress with a rounded collar and buttons sewn down most of the chest. I ripped most of the dress to make it look old and worn down and stained it with fake blood packets. Then I did half my hair in a pigtail and the other half left down. My Hollywood movie makeup really made the costume though. The three of us were pretty creepy looking.
After about an hour of trying to get us to dance, Amber left Ronnie and me and went to go dance with her other groups of friends. Amber was perfectly friendly like that, she could go around and dance with anyone and fit in perfectly, even get people she didn't know to dance more. Yet she couldn't get her two best friends to dance!
Once Amber had left and after we got tired of half talking, half pretending to dance, Ronnie and I had sat down on the floor off to the side of the dancefloor. I was having fun so far, I was just getting anxious about when my bad luck would kick in. It wasn't going to miss an opportunity like this. I especially couldn't stop thinking about what Amber had said before. A "special someone", did she really think that's what I was missing in my life? Psh, no! Why would I even want a "special someone"? What do you do with them? Be awkward? Feed it? Let IT talk, or do I talk? I hate having to take turns talking to people! Besides, it didn't really matter if I needed someone special in my life because he isn't going to show up. I started conversation with Ronnie so my stupid thoughts would shut up and just let me have fun. Even while we were talking, I couldn't help but keep worrying about how my luck was going to make a fool out of me tonight. We'd just have to wait and see...
