I looked at myself in the vanity mirror. I played around with my shirt, tucking it in and out until finally deciding to leave it out, pulling it down. It was my classic yellow and black Nirvana shirt. Paired with it were my wore down skinny jeans. My ridiculous eyes popped out anxiously against my tired face. I had been apprehensive about this all day. I played around with my massive mane of thick brown hair. My hair naturally curled, making people melt over how amazing they thought it was. As for me, I can't stand it. The annoying curls and frizzy hairs that stick out oddly. The heavy thickness to it. Ugh, I can't understand how anyone like it!
I practiced a smile in the mirror, finally finding the one I liked the most. If only I could remember the way this face felt so I could put it on as often as I do my naturally ridiculous smile. My teeth sparkled from the braces covering them, soon I would get them off. I scrubbed my hands in the sink as best as I could, trying to erase my doodles from study hall. Finally I gave up, realizing the sharpie wasn't going to come off any time soon.
I checked my phone and saw the time before hurrying down the stairs, realizing I only had a few minutes before I would have to start walking down there. I pulled my leather jacket on and pulled on my converse, covered in song lyrics and doodles.
I waved my mom and dad goodbye and walked off to the movie theater, biting my lower lip in that awful habit I do when I'm nervous or anxious. I told myself to stop, not wanting to break the skin I had already cut a few days earlier.
I walked into the neighborhood movie theater. It was like a cave, but lit only by the bright glow of the signs. The theater consisted of three auditoriums and of course the snack bar. It was small enough that I could easily find Mickey sitting on a bench, obviously right on time and waiting for me. It had sort of worked out well that Ronnie an Amber were busy that day because I couldn't I also found Peter and a few friends near my gang, socializing perhaps. I walked up nervously, greeting everyone with the best smile I could manage.
"Hey 'Drey!" Mickey nudged me with his elbow playfully as I greeted him with a friendly hug.
"Don't be nervous." He whispered in my ear, obviously picking up on my habit of biting my lower lip.
"Hey there Audrey!" Peter summonsed me over.
"Hi." I said timidly.
"Glad you could come!"
"Me too! Thanks for planning everything." I answered back nearly automatically.
"Did you meet Mike?" He asked.
"Uh, no not yet." I said, looking around at all his friends. I was happy someone had social skills because I had zero.
"Well this is Mike, he's been my friend for a while."
"Oh, hi Mike." I said politely, waving with a closed-mouth smile. He waved back, a pearl-white smile showing.
"Let's go get some snacks before the movie starts." Mike suggested after we had all met each other. I joined back with Mickey cowardly as we walked off to the snack bar. As we walked I twirled my necklace-- the necklace with the die on it.
