The building exploded right after the helicopter was a few meters away from it. Mission successful. I was thinking about how proud mum would be when I got back. Just imagine, an average sixteen year old agent making her 100th mission successful. Too bad I have no friends to share it with.
I am sixteen and British, Im originally from London but I moved to Chicago when I was 8. I left my friends, family, and home. I was upset at first but got used to it.
I sighed as I waited for the pilot to land the helicopter in headquarters. I was used to the lurch feeling in my stomach when we dropped down on the giant landing spot with the H on it underneath the building of where we plan our missions, train, and live. Usually adults are the agents but my mum and dad said I had a gift. Well, that was before dad had been killed.
He was in a mission about two years ago, a year after I quit school to work here, and he had planned to kill Sergei. He was a bad threat to everyone, always killing people he sees and sometimes injuring himself to see people die. He also held many dangerous weapons and my dad was in his building in his mission and stealthily sneaked around following Sergei when all the sudden the whole floor exploded (because of a grenade placed by Sergei) killing him and Sergei. When I found out, I was devastated. I had to stop working for two months because of anxiety and depression. But I got better and got over it eventually, still remembering the tragedy.
When we finally landed, I hopped out of the helicopter and ran to mum, who was standing a couple feet away. We were about the same height so hugging wouldn't be a stretch. I loved to feel her soft hair on my face when I'm hugging her and listen to her soothing voice all the time. She was always there for me when dad died. In our hug she whispered to me, "Good job, Victoria" I replied, "Thanks," as we were pulling out of the hug. Now in her normal voice she said, "I have some good news! But first let's get inside," and with that we walked down the stairs into the building.
As we walked by, everyone congratulated me. Some even hugged me. When we finally got through the parade of hugs and praises, we walked into mum's office and sat down in the comfy chairs. "So, the good news is that you have a new partner." I was terribly shocked. "What?" "You have a new partner," my mother repeated having no intention of the way I was feeling. I felt like I was going to be sick. "Are you alright?" mum asked me with a concerned look on her face. I shook my head and stood up and walked out.
Why would she put a stranger with me on my missions? I'm very intelligent and stealthy on my own, why would I need help? I ignored the rest of the people who congratulated me as I walked to my room. It's a very plain room with only a bed, a window, a desk, a bedside table, and a closet. I rested my arm on the windowsill and wondered how the "partner" was going to be like. Will it be a he or a she? Will it be nice? Will it show off? Will it be better than me? I doubt it I'm the best spy in this building. Then why would she pair me with a "partner"? Ughhh, this is so confusing! I flopped down on my bed and stared at the ceiling.
A few minutes later, mum came in. I kept staring at the ceiling. "Seems like your a bit unhappy about getting a friend to do missions together with," mum said after sighing. "A little," I replied trying to be nice to her. "Can you at least explain to me who my 'companion' is?" I added "Of course," my mum quickly said. "Well he's 16 too and-" I interupted her. "Wait, it's a 'he'?" "Well, yes. His name is Jake and he actually went to your school too, but now he's joining us in the agency in one month" My mind froze, Jake? I remember him! I used to like him before I left. But I let him go since everybody liked him and I didn't think I'd stand a chance getting him. Besides, he doesn't matter to me anymore, I have better things to do than to waste my time drooling over a guy who's not worth my time. But, I'm curious on how he looks like now. Well, I guess I'll find out soon.
I know, I know, It sucks. But I promise it will get better and better each chapter! Bubbles thinks so too. Don't you love the song I chose for this chapter?!?!?!? Well, I basically love ALL of Adele's songs, so it's obvious that I like this one......
