THIS WAS IT THIS was the night I would meet the man I might spend the rest of forever with. It was sickening, the pit in my stomach growing more and more as the night grew closer; and my appearance gradually became one of an object— being sold of to a 'devilishly handsome' man, as my mother liked to say.

So standing here in front of my body length mirror, the green fabric wrapped tightly around my waist before flowing down past my ankles. I watched the material away around me like a mystical being— making each little movement enchanted as I stepped away, and out of by bed room door.

This was it..

This was the night..

Letting out a deep breath I hadn't known I'd been holding, I let myself relax; I let all of my built up frustration; and loneliness fade away.. with one flimsy breath..

"This is it.." I whispered to myself, the music that cascaded from behind this ginormous oak door in front of me was the only noise that could be heard. Until I pushed it open.. the chatter; beat; and sound of heels pattering against the tile floor flooded my ears all at once.. it was beautiful; the lights; decorations, and even some of the people looked marvelous as they danced around in disguise with multiple partners.

I quickly fasted my mask around my eyes, ensuring no one had seen my real identity until the very last moment..

Within seconds a man ran up to me, about in his thirties; offering his hand to me, "Madam, if I must say you look absolutely breathtaking, and I would love to have this dance.." he confessed. Looking down at his hand, I pondered his question in my mind.

I would have to dance with someone eventually, so why not get it over with.

I took his hand into my own before he pulled the two of us out into the center of the ballroom— various couples and partners swirling around us in a synchronized beat.

It was like a dream, being spun around the ball room by this mysterious man. And when the music came to a stop, I found another.. and another. Until I practically drunk off my feet from spinning around so much.

So taking a breather, I found a chair near the back of the room. With some punch in my hand, and my heels placed delicately on the table— I let myself relax, closing my eyes and feeling the music swirl around me just like the dancers had only moments ago; taking in the beat and feeling it pump it's way through me like my own blood; and finally.. the clicks of various heels hitting the ground was the most satisfying sound that could be heard that night..
