TWELVE YEARS
╰──── ✩ ────╯CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR
✩TWELVE YEARS, TWELVE excruciatingly long years I have sat here, rotting away in this compact cell. With such a scarce amount of food, that I was now becoming skin in bones. My teeth were horrid, and we shouldn't even get started on my complexion.
I was a mess, someone who hadn't spoken to another living person in nearly twelve years.. at least I think it was twelve years. My perception of time had gone off the chains at about a month. This was absolute torture.. and what made it worse is I was innocent.
The only thing I had to look forward to was the hope I had for seeing my lover again; and luckily they hadn't taken my wedding ring.. so I still had a reminder of his whenever I looked down at the silver band wrapped around my finger.
So I sat there, gazing at the ring— wishing for someone, anything to help me see him again. Just one last time.
That's when the pattering of footsteps made their way down the hall. They were light, not human like.. coming to a stop directly in front of my cell door. Whether it was an animal or a guard, they were either here to feed me...or I was to receive the dementors kiss.
I assumed the second option.
But when the door swung open, hitting the wall with a large thud. I was struck with shock at what laid before me— there, sitting in the doorway, was a gruff looking dog; and when those bright yellow eyes locked onto mine.. I knew exactly who it was, even before he transfigured back into the man I love.
"Sirius.." I mumbled, my voice cracking from the vast amount of time I had been limited to silence.. while my lip nearly busted open from the sudden movement.
"Hey hot stuff" his was equally as raspy, cracking with each syllable of my name— but somehow, even in this troubling time, he still managed to pop a joke.. That is why I love this man..
Without hesitation, I ran up to him, pulling him into an embrace, "oh my merlin.." I mumbled against the fabric of his prison robes, taking in his scent. No longer did the smell of cigarettes or his cologne linger in his clothes.. no, it was replaced with the putrid smell of death, much like myself..
When my arms were wrapped around him I could tell his frame was much smaller— with lack of definition caused by years of starvation; that was not a surprise. We could pass for two homeless people if we weren't known criminals.
