April of 2010, Phoenix, Arizona
Twenty-two-year-old Seth sat on a park bench, patiently waiting for his maybe new roommate. It was a hot day in Arizona, but that didn't stop the energy-filled kids from enjoying their time on the playground.
It was a good thing Seth had lived there his entire life. Otherwise, he wouldn't be so immune to the sun.
As he was waiting, he got a call from his brother.
"Hello?"
"Hey man, we still on for lunch?"
"Yeah, yeah, for sure. I'm just meeting with the girl I told you about. Although I feel like I shouldn't be."
"Because Gen has an issue with you may be living with a girl?"
"She's my girlfriend, right? I should respect that."
"If she has a problem with it so much, why doesn't she just move in with you? Oh, right! She likes her space."
Seth held the bridge of his nose, "Sean. . ."
"I'm just saying, you need someone to pay the other half of the rent, and this girl is the only one who's willing right now. It's either this girl, or you're gonna have to move out and find another place which takes more work."
"And I don't want to do that," Seth sighed.
"I get it. It's uncomfortable for Gen, but I don't see her trying to help your situation. Besides, it's not like you would cheat on her. You're Seth. You don't have a mean bone in your body."
Seth rubbed the back of his neck. He hated making people upset or uncomfortable, especially Genevieve. Sometimes he forgets to think about himself and what he needs, and his brother hates it.
"How long have you been waiting anyway?"
"Not long," Seth started looking around. "She should be here any minute. I'm looking out for a girl in a . . ."
Seth trailed off, noticing a gorgeous girl entering the park. She was pushing a sleeping baby girl in a stroller. At her hip was a little boy walking an adorable Pomeranian.
"Yellow dress," he finally finished his sentence. "I'm looking for a girl in a yellow sundress."
And that's precisely what she was wearing.
A bright yellow skater sundress that was off the shoulders. It flowed beautifully in the humid wind as she walked, her brown eyes scanning the playground. Her brown skin shimmered under the bright sun, her curly hair stopping a few inches past her shoulders.
She held the little boy's hand, even standing on her toes as if that would help her find whoever she was looking for.
"Seth?" Sean called his brother, who had been staring. "Bro, you there?"
"I'm gonna call you back," Seth hung up without any explanation.
He stood up, one part of him not wanting her to be who he was meeting up with, but the other part of him knowing that was, in fact, her.
Taking a chance, he waved his hand, catching her attention.
She starts walking over and fixes his clothes without even thinking.
"Seth?" The way she said his name made his throat hitch.
He cleared his throat, "Yes, yes, that's me. I am Seth."
"Raelynn," she held out her hand.
He shakes it.
"I hope you weren't waiting that long."
