I walked into my last class of the day, Chorus. To my surprise, Sam was sitting there, talking to three other guys. They all looked popular. If they really could sing, I would be surprised.
The teacher walked in and looked around.
"I see we have a new student. Aria, is it?"
"Yes." I replied.
"Alright. Since we don't really have anything coming up, you guys can chill and just do whatever, as long as you're singing."
"O... Okay."
"Hey, Aria!" Sam waved me over to where he was.
"Oh god."
I slung my backpack higher on my shoulder and walked over to Sam and his friends. One was really muscular, with bushy eyebrows. Another was small and blonde, with blue eyes. The last one was tall, wide-faced, and green eyed. Dark hair peeked out from beneath a gray beanie.
"Hi." I said reluctantly.
"Is this the girl you've been chewing our ears off over?" Eyebrows asked.
"Hey, I can see why." Beanie boy said, looking me up and down.
"Jack, Nate, shut up." Sam said, looking embarrassed.
"So, this is Nate, Jack Johnson, and Jack Gilinsky. Guys, this is Aria."
"I hope you know introducing me to your friends doesn't increase your chances with me." I said, crossing my arms.
"Ohhh.." Nate and the Jacks shared a look, then looked at me again.
"Fine. Can you at least sit?" Sam asked.
I planted my butt in a chair, and have Sam a stony look.
"So, are you guys actually good singers, or are you in here to get an easy A?" I asked, looking from boy to boy.
"Trust me, we're pretty good." Gilinsky said confidently, smirking.
"All right. Sing me something."
"Cold hearted?" Johnson asked, looking around at the guys. They agreed, then began to sing a, surprisingly good-sounding song, complete with rapping, beat-boxing, and drumming on chairs.
"Okay. Now it's your turn." Johnson said confidently.
"Okay." I wasn't worried. I knew exactly what I would do.
I stood up and strode over to the piano. I looked at the teacher for permission, and he nodded at me.
I took a breath, and let my hands fly over the keys.
"Remember those walls I built? Well baby, they're tumbling down. They didn't even put up a fight. They didn't even make a sound..."
I finished, smirked at the boys, and returned to my seat. Everyone in the class, even the teacher, was looking at me dumbfounded.
"Amazing. Simply amazing!" The teacher said, and I grinned.
"So, we're even now?"
Sam grumbled something, and I grinned.
"Don't test me Wilkinson. I'll throw you for a loop every time."
"How do you know my last name?"
"I may be quiet, but I'm observant. I was paying attention in history." I replied.
"Ouch." Nate mumbled.
"Goes for you too, Maloley."
