DAKOTAS POV-
"I'm sorry to bother you like this." I apologize to Nathaniel. He just smiled at me in an evil way, then tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear. His touch scares me, filling my body with a negative feeling. I take a step back from him, but he just takes a step forward, keeping the distance between us the same.
"I'm not mad." He insists. I sigh out of relief when he said that and I calm down a little bit. "But you should come home now." His voice sounds a little serious as he said that. I shake my head no.
"I want to go to the beach. I'm going to go to the beach with my friend." I stand up for myself. I immediately regret it, but I don't let him know that.
"With that fellow in there?" He asks as he points in the room. I nod my head yes. I still have yet to tell him that I filed for a divorce which he won't support but the judge says that if he doesn't sign the papers in 30 days, custody will be granted to me and the divorce will be final. He can keep his stuff, I don't want any of it. Especially not the house.
"You can't do that." He raises his voice towards me, but I don't flinch. I stand there motionless in front of the man I used to love.
"Yes, I can. I'm not a teenager. I'm an adult and I'm going to go on vacation." I stand my ground. He grabs me by my arms and drags me outside. I can tell that eyes are staring at us, but I ignore them. they're just people I'll never see again in this lifetime. I ignore the pain from Nathaniel's grip in my arm and try to keep up with his pace.
Once we are outside, he lets go, but I can tell that he's heated now. He turns to me and begins to yell at the defending tone.
I don't make out what he says because I space out and think about Peyton's sisters case. There's another case similar to hers that I have looked into, and I try to piece together the puzzle. I know what I need to do when I get back to the apartment.
The yelling and screwing continues until a cop comes by. Sometimes I forget I have the ability to arrest Nate, but it'll never work because he's twice my size.
The officer is the one from the other night helping me with the court and papers. He realizes who I am and stays quiet about everything. He walks up to us from his car and pulls Nate away from me. The officer is saying something to him, but I turn around because I feel like I'm invading something.
Someone's hand lands on my shoulder and I jump. I'm prepared to run but the touch of this hand is warm, and soft. I turn around to see the officer staring directly into my eyes, telling me that it's all okay and that I'm safe.
"Is that the guy.?" He asks me. I nod my head. I'm trying to tell him something, anything but I can't. I open my mouth, but my voice box won't make a sound. I sigh and look down at the cold hard ground.
"H-e, he's the one." I stiffer for a split second. The officer takes his hand off of my shoulder and pulls out a little pocket book. There's writing on each page he turns until he stops.
"Is this his name and address?" I read over his name and our address to verify that the information is correct.
"Great. He won't be hurting you anymore." He warmly smiles at me and I smile back, but I don't feel safe anymore. I haven't in a long time.
"Yes he will. He's my husband." I quickly reply to him. He looks up from the booklet and looks concerned.
"Do you have anywhere to stay right now?" He asks me. I shrug my shoulders.
"I'm staying with a friend for a few days, but after that I have to go back and I have his son." I explain my situation to the officer. He nods his head and shoves his hand sin his pockets. I can see the wheels turning in his head, and I just wait for him to say anything. Please, say something I mentally beg him.
