[XXXX, 12 days before the UA Sports Festival]
"Iida, do you know who they are?" Uraraka Ochako whispered, staring at the two students Kirishima had just walked away from.
"No, I do not. Perhaps they are in Class 1-B?" Iida Tenya responded loudly, alerting Todoroki Shouto, who had been sitting on the other side of the table by himself, to their conversation.
Nosey. Like always. Todoroki huffed before taking another slurp of cold soba.
"They look lonely. We should go say hi!" Ochako exclaimed, excited by the prospect of meeting new friends.
"I suppose we should," Tenya nodded in agreement. "Todoroki, would you like to come with us?"
Internally Todoroki snorted. His name and the word "us" didn't belong in the same sentence. Barely looking up, Todoroki shook his head. There was no way he was going to intentionally interact with somebody.
"Suit yourself then," Ochako said, pulling Tenya away from their table. "Come on Iida!"
Ochako dragged Tenya over to Izuku and Hitoshi, who were discussing the importance of a book cover.
"Well, you shouldn't judge the book by it's cover." Hitoshi stated his opinion.
"Yeah, but at the same time, the cover is really important to draw people to it in the first place." Izuku stuttered, his tone sturdy.
"True true. Design is-" Hitoshi was cut off. Again. Seriously, what is with Hitoshi and getting cut off today?
"Hi! I'm Uraraka and this is-" Ochako introduced herself.
"Iida Tenya of Class 1-A! It is nice to meet you!" Tenya arm chopped his way through his introduction and greeting, bowing at a ninety degree angle.
Once again smiling, Izuku greeted them back and introduced himself and Hitoshi. "I-it's great to meet you two."
"I agree!" Tenya boomed, arm motion starting up again. "It is certainly wonderful to meet students from Class 1-B!"
"What?" Hitoshi looked up sharply, eyes narrowed. His words were clipped and he almost hissed at the two 1-A students. "Are you making fun of us?"
"N-no? We just wanted to say hi! That's all!" Ochacko was incredibly confused. All they had done was say hi, why was the purple haired one offended?
"Well, you're obviously stupid then. We're in general education dumbasses." Hitoshi spat out.
Sunshine students. God I hate them. Izuku thought, his polite smile faltering for a moment. He nodded to show his agreement with Hitoshi's statement. "Hopefully we'll b-be hero students soon!"
Confused at that statement, but enthusiastic at the response, Ochacko pumped her fist in the air. "PLUS ULTRA!"
Iida noticed other students looking at them and pulled Ochacko away from the table. "We shall talk to you soon! Goodbye!"
"...Well that was weird." Shinsou slowly started to resume eating.
"A-agreed." Izuku narrowed his eyes in the direction of the two hero students. They seemed to be arguing, but Uraraka had a smile on her face. Odd.
"Hey, what were you saying about being a hero student soon? I thought you don't want to be a hero?" Hitoshi abruptly looked up, his eyes lending a glimpse of burning curiosity.
"Uh..." Izuku looked down at his food. He hadn't meant to say that, it had just come out. Hadn't he put his useless dream of being a hero behind? Apparently not.
"Hello?" Hitoshi was yet again concerned.
"Yeah... Yeah, I'm here... sorry," Izuku blinked, still looking down. "I, uh... when I was younger, I wanted to b-be a-a hero when I grew up... Guess I haven't grown out of th-that yet."
"Oh." Hitoshi's mouth stayed round even as he was silent. "That's... I'm sorry about that."
"Why?" Izuku asked.
"I..." Hitoshi thought about it. "I'm not sure. Now that I think about it, people apologize for a ton of useless stuff."
"Tell me a-about it." The living broccoli boy nodded in agreement. "Society is messed up."
"Well isn't that morbid." Hitoshi chuckled humorlessly. "Anyways, you ready for training later? You wanna do some?"
"Um... maybe? I... I wouldn't b-be the greatest training partner." Izuku sighed, looking down. "Quirkless, weak, the works."
"Nah, it's fine dude," Hitoshi shut down his worries. "'S not like I've got much strength either, you know?"
"O-oh! Okay then!" Izuku smiled, genuine this time, as the lunch bell rang. He was glad to have a friend who accepted him for what he was. And, hey, if he could help Shinsou become a hero, who's to say that quirkless means worthless.

Over with Ochako and Tenya, Shouto Todoroki was getting a headache. He'd come to the school to become a hero, not become friends with obnoxious classmates. Well, he didn't really have a choice in the matter, but that wasn't the point. The point was that he was at UA for a reason and his classmates weren't making achieving his goals any easier. Then again, since when was anything easy for him.
"The sports festival," Shouto sighed. "That's what they meant."
"Huh?" Ochako looked at the mop of bi-coloured hair (not that its owner could see her gaze). She and Tenya had been trying to figure out what the two boys they had just met meant. Neither had the slightest idea and their conversation had devolved into an argument after a while.
"If a gen-ed kid does well enough in the Sports Festival, they can be moved to the hero course. Didn't you know?" Shouto finally looked up, his face a mask of indifference.
This chapter is about four hundred words shorter than it normally would be, so sorry about that. But, hey! I'm getting back into the swing of things!
I hope to make chapter five longer than normal to make up for this, but no promises.
I hope you enjoyed!
