Video Games and the Author's Frustration [2]

Music washed over him as he let his mind wander and his fingers fly. He could faintly hear the cheers of his classmates from down the street, but he ignored the sound. It wasn't relevant to him anyways.

If you were to watch the scene in person, all you would be able to hear was the clacking of keys and some humming now and then. Izuku was in the zone. Or at least, that's how Shinsou Hitoshi would later describe the way Izuku looked when he found him that day.

Hitoshi was a quiet boy, mostly out of habit. He'd always wanted to be a hero, but he was shut down almost everywhere he turned. His sister was the only one who believed in him, and for a while it was enough for Hitoshi. But as he continued on his journey through life, he came to need more than just one person's validation. He needed somebody else that didn't call him a villain and didn't mind his quietness or his slight cat obsession. He needed a friend.

Hitoshi had some real bad experiences with "friends". Betrayals and fake friends were all he knew. So when he came to UA he announced he wasn't there for making friends. He'd be fine without them. He'd survived this long, what's the rest of his life, right? Turns out he was wrong. But he didn't really understand why he wanted a friend until he made one.

Shinsou Hitoshi walked down the street of the fake city. He was looking for a training partner and the rest of 1-C wasn't too keen on interacting with "the weird purple haired kid with a villains quirk". They were stupid, he knew that. But it was normal and Hitoshi was used to it. The only problem he had with it was that he had nobody to train with and therefore couldn't use his quirk.

He walked the lonely road alone until some faint singing caught his attention. Where was it coming from? Who in their right mind would be singing right now? Were they even a student at UA? All were questions Hitoshi asked himself as he started to travel towards the noise.

The singing got louder as Hitoshi got closer and he could make out the words to "GRRRLS", a song that was on his backup playlist. When he finally stopped in front of one of the buildings, the singing had stopped and was replaced by very faint clicking sounds. Hitoshi assumed that whoever was singing was also typing on some sort of keyboard on one of the higher floors of the building.

He entered through the front door as silently as he could and made his way up the stairs. The building was mostly empty, though there was some furniture every now and then. It was probably to make the building more realistic during hero course training exercises.

Finding himself on the third floor, he spotted a green haired boy sitting on an armchair seemingly lost in his own world. Who...? Wait- he's in 1-C right? Yeah, yeah that sounds right. Hitoshi thought, trying to recall who exactly this boy was.

"Hey. Midoriya, right?" Hitoshi spoke quietly as he moved into Midoriya's line of sight.

Midoriya paused his music and looked up, confused as to who was talking to him. "Uh huh. Wh-who are y-you?"

"The name's Shinsou. What're you doing?"

"Oh! I'm... uh... typing out my book!" Izuku stuttered out, surprised that somebody was interested in what he was doing.

Hitoshi raised an eyebrow, "You're writing a book? Can I see it?" What? He was curious!

Izuku saved his writing and went back to the beginning of the book. "Here," he said, handing the laptop to Hitoshi. He didn't think that there was a possibility Shinsou read his first book, no there was no way. Although he had made some money from his book, there was no way Shinsou Hitoshi of all people had read it... right?

"Woah, you write exactly like Kana Chosha! And... is this fanfiction of his book?" Hitoshi stared at Izuku intently.

Shit. Izuku was in deep trouble now. He was so bad at lying, it was honestly ridiculous. You could get a better lie out of a rock than out of Midoriya Izuku. "U-um... y-yes?"

"...You sound pretty unsure there buddy." Hitoshi said with a tenth-doctor worthy eyebrow raise.

"Ah... sorry," Izuku didn't really know what he was supposed to do. Was he supposed to just tell this random boy in his class that he was actually the author behind the name Kana Chosha? That he was actually writing the second book? He couldn't do that! No way Jose. Izuku's mind went on overdrive as he tried to think of what to say next. He needed to say something. "Do y-you like video games?"

Hitoshi's brow raised further. This kid was going to try to change the subject on him? Well... if he was that uncomfortable, Histoshi guessed he could leave it be. "Yeah, video games are alright. You?"

Izuku's eyes brightened considerably. Finally! Somebody he could discuss games with! "I do! Wh-what's y-your favourite?"

Hitoshi chuckled, "Well, I really enjoyed DDLC. And Frog Fractions. You know, stuff with twists."

Izuku gasped. "Frog Fractions is superior! B-but I liked Undertale more than D-DDLC."

"I've never played Undertale. It's good?" Hitoshi' eyes widened when he heard the response to the question. Izuku had started rambling about talking flowers, demon children, whatever the heck "Mettaton, Sans, and Papyrus" were and a... "goat mom" before pausing, looking at Hitoshi with stars in his eyes and continued rambling. Only this time it was about the "multiverse" and how cool it was the "people made their own aus"? Thoroughly confused, Hitoshi just nodded along, letting Izuku stutter through his rant. He didn't seem to know much about social interaction. Not that Hitoshi did, but Izuku was on a whole other level.

"...And that's wh-why this entire conversation was to fuel the author's d-desire to play video games they can't play!!" Izuku stopped talking, only his last sentence intelligible to Hitoshi, who was even more confused. The author? What?

IZUKU NO BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL! NOW I NEED SOME FLEX TAPE DAMMIT!

"Sorry Rem..." Now Hitoshi was even more confused. Forget the fact that he was cagey about his writing! Who the heck is the author? Who is Izuku talking to? Rem?

It's fine Izu. Sorry Shinsou. Obliviate!

Hitoshi looked at Izuku, who seemed to be inspecting him. "Um... what were we talking about again?"

Seemingly satisfied, Izuku stopped scrutinizing him. "Video games! And how y-you need to play Undertale!"

So that's what they were talking about! Izuku closed his laptop and the two sat on the floor across from each other. Writing and sparring forgotten, the quirkless and the "villainous" discussed all sorts of topics before the end of the period. They kept talking as they made their way to Midnight, only stopping to say bye before continuing on about "Unstable Unicorns" and how to betray friends.

Shaking her head, Midnight watched the two go on their way. "Those two... troublemaking duo if I've ever seen one," The vibes were strong in this one.

Hey, I'm back with the second chapter. It's kinda shit, and it's a bit shorter. I also just realized I never shared the song that the title was based on, so here's that:

Sorry this is so late. I've been trying to pre-write chapters, but I haven't been able to get my hands on a laptop for a while and didn't want to post chapter two until chapter three had started to be written.

If you saw any errors, feel free to let me know!

Thanks for reading!

Peace out 😙✌️
