Lex staggered backward. Not again. She collected herself.

"What happens now?"

"We go get her."

Azrael closed her eyes for a brief moment. When she opened them, they were bright blue and glowing.

"Hades, Anubis, Hel, and Osiris, show me Angie."

She scanned the room for a bit. When the glow faded, her eyes were directly on Lex.

" All I can do is see where she could be, you have to go and summon her."

" Me? How can you be sure?"

" Because you commanded the dead. I'll be honest, it's a hunch, but I believe I'm right. Just picture her in your head and think about going to her."

Lex took a deep breath and thought about Angie. Her dark hair and sweet smile flooded her mind. The memories of them and Sally laughing and gossiping came to her brain. Then something else. Lex felt her breath coming out as a frosty wind. She turned and saw desolate fields with lost souls.

It was then that she made eye contact with the cold, dead eyes of Angie.

"I'm coming."

When she opened her eyes, a portal appeared in front of her, leading to the desolate field.

Azrael's mouth dropped. Lex glanced over at her and headed through the portal, her hair blowing in response to the power emanating from it.

The landscape felt as dead as it looked, with fields of dry grass stretching as far as the eye could see. There were wandering souls everywhere, waiting... just waiting. For what, she didn't know. Lex could see that it was cold by Azrael's slight shiver, but she didn't feel it. She felt warmth, power. When she passed by the wandering souls, they took a double-take, almost not believing what they saw. They parted the way for her, as she made her way across the field and directly towards Angie. She turned towards Lex, her eyes empty with no recognition. Lex reached out and held her hands. She felt the power of the old gods coursing through her, like their blessings have been bestowed. Angie's spirit faded in her arms, as she sent it back to her body. Once the spirit faded, Lex knelt to the ground and the voices of the old gods filled the air as their power coursed through her veins.

" You have understood the true meaning of death, not an end but a change, a new journey. Our child, you are ready. Let the spirit of Thantantos fill you and rise! Rise, Death, Rise! And walk amongst the living, guiding them to their final resting place. "

The air shifted as the power enveloped Lex. She stood, her eyes glowing bright blue. She turned to find all the souls and Azrael kneeling.

"Milady Death."

"Azrael."

Lex looked to all the souls kneeling before her. "It's time for you to rest."

She raised her hands and with the flick of her wrist, opened portals to the many different afterlives. She turned to Azrael.

"I have to go check on Angie before we finish here."

"As you wish, you are Death herself after all. And I believe you know the way out. When you are ready, we can make a more formal announcement."

She smiled, feeling a sense of peace and power she has never experienced as she opened a portal to the hospital. She stepped into the ICU and sprinted towards Angie's room. When she got there, she saw Dmitri standing outside, looking in as Angie's parents showered her with hugs and kisses.
