(This is my first chapter. I won't say much but I hope that you all will like it.)

Lindsay walked home from school with her back pack on her back. It was in the middle of the winter and she didn't have no jacket on to cover herself from the freezing cold that was making her rub her hands up and down her arms a she desperately tried her best to get warm. Her lips cracked from being chapped for so long that they were almost bleeding by now.

She was only seventeen, she only had one more year of high school to go but she was beginning to forget about all that. She finally made it home but nothing was exciting about that since her mother was bringing her usual favorite client into the house. Billy, she hated him especially since he was always glaring over at Lindsay. He would call her Lin which she hated.

Lindsay walked inside to see her mom making out with Billy on the couch which disgusted her. "Oh Lindsay you are home. Go help yourself to anything in the fridge. I got you some pizza." Lindsay rolled her eyes while walking to the fridge. There was pizza, but it was hard as a rock. She knew her mother did not go to the store or order pizza, it was old pizza she must have gotten from the dumpster. Lindsay desperately needed a shower but since her mother sleeps around for money Billy only cared about screwing her mother and getting close with her.

He would sometimes give them money but it was never enough to pay any bills that her mother would neglect to do. Lindsay went to her room instead to just check on her stash of food she hid underneath her bed to see if her mother had found it. Thankfully she hadn't. So she snuck out some chips and ate them. With the door locked she changed into her warm clothes, there was a knock on the door. It was Bill.

"What do you want Bill?" Lindsay asked. She pushed her glasses up to her nose. "I just wanna talk to you sweetie, don't be like that." Bill said trying not to be pissed off by her attitude. Lindsay opened up her door to find Bill coming in with his belt. Lindsay got away from him since she knew what was coming.

"No Bill, please don't. Don't!" "Stop your bitching you little slut." He spoke with spit hitting her in the face. "Bill please don't do this. Not again! Lindsay cried. Before Bill could whip her Lindsay kicked him in the legs then punching him in the groin area before breaking out of her room through the window. She knew that her mother would have been blocking her way through the door.

Lindsay ran and ran with Bill calling out to her saying he would kill her if he had caught her. Lindsay ran out in the bitter cold night not sure of where she would go. She had no money and no food or any water. She just kept running, ignoring the burning sensation that was going on under her ruined shoes that had holes in them. She came to a park. She sat on the swings when she saw a familiar truck driving around. It was Bill's truck. He was coming over to the park. So Lindsay ran inside the dark blue slide crawling up inside to stay hidden. She hoped that his headlights wouldn't spot her in the slide.

Heart pounding and cold sweat dripping from her head she stayed in the cramped position for what felt like forever while Bill walked with a bat in his hands. He checked the bathrooms near by to not find her. He checked around but not checking the slide when he got back in his truck huffing and banging on the steering wheel angry that he couldn't find her.

After uncomfortable minutes of Lindsay being inside the slide she finally came out, she couldn't stay in the park. So she saw what looked like a place she could stay for the evening. She ran over to a alley way and crawling inside a box trying to get warm. Crying she said to herself. "Now what do I do?"

Shivering and shaking in the blistering cold she was unable to sleep at all that night. By morning light, she crawled out smelling the sweet smell of a donut shop near by. Lindsay walked to it but not without looking over her shoulder for Bill. She made it to the donut shop, her stomach grumbling at the sweet smell of the donuts being fresh at this early in the morning.

"Oh hello little girl what can I get you?" The owner asked. "I like one donut please." Lindsay said checking her pockets for any sort of forgotten change. "I only have fifty cents." She said knowing it wasn't enough for her food.

The man took pity on her seeing her appearance. "Tell you what, you can have some food and some hot chocolate on the house." He said sweetly. Lindsay looked up at him in tears. She let him pick her out what she could have.

He made her hot chocolate and glazed donut holes and some pigs in a blanket. Lindsay didn't waste no time eating them at one of the booths. The man just laughed. When she was done he then asked her where she was living. Lindsay didn't say much. She just said she lived about five minutes away. She didn't wanna tell a stranger that she ran away cause of abuse. So she just told him little before leaving and thanking him for his kindness. With a full belly Lindsay went back to the box she was staying in seeing some water pour into a bowl from the roof of the building. She used it to kind of wash herself with.

She laid back inside the box for the rest of the day being cold. She knew she was gonna have to some how get warm. And like that, he saw a vent from the building come on, she went over feeling heat from it. She got over it allowing herself to get warm. Her feet freezing from the holes in her boots. She stayed liked that for the rest of the day till crawling back into her box. She brought it over to the vent so she could let some heat in while she tried to sleep.
