The last week of summer went by fast. Luke and I didn't get a lot of time to talk since we were both getting prepared for school. When I woke up I had to remember that not only am I starting the hardest year of high school today, I walk in with a beautiful Australian guy I can't even claim as mine.
I head to the bathroom to shower but I hear it already running and know Luke's in there. I try not to be a creep but when I hear him faintly singing I have no choice but to put my ear to the door and listen. He had a really nice voice and I'm positive he's singing "Sugar we're going down".
After a few minutes of just enjoying the sound of his voice I decide I need to get ready and walk downstairs to my parents room to shower.
"Mom, can I shower in here? Luke's showering upstairs."
"Sure honey. But before you do, we want to talk to you."
"Alright."
I walk over to my parents and sit down.
"What do you think of Luke so far?"
I'm not going to tell my parents I think he's a walking sex god, so I just leave a simple answer.
"He's cool. He has a great music taste."
My mom looked at my dad and back at me. "Well as long as your comfortable."
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"Cause he's insanely attractive." My dad said.
My jaw dropped to the floor.
My mom gets up."Well I was going to say something more, reserved, but I'm old enough to know a cute guy and he is one."
I honestly feel like I'm still dreaming. My parents, my old school, walked with dinosaurs parents think Luke is attractive?
"Okay this is really weird. That's why you were acting strange when he got here isn't it, mom!?"
"Well I didn't know he would be that cute! Now you know why I'm worried for you. If you did break abstinence, hell, I wouldn't blame you."
"You are my MOM! You are my DAD! Why am I more responsible than you? I am not into Luke so chill, both of you. Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna shower and pretend like this conversation never happened."
That was the hardest lie I've ever told, but I mentally pat myself on the back for lying that well. After my shower I go upstairs to get ready for school. I put on pastel pink leggings and a baby blue tank. I put my jean jacket on and roll up the sleeves to show the floral print on the inside. I go to my converse box in my closet and pull it out to get buttons for my jacket. Basically this converse box holds everything I love. It holds all my favorite buttons and patches, my guitar picks, an old copy of the great gatsby, some Polaroids, and a picture of my parents when they first started dating. And of course, my journal. It has a bunch of collages and entries but I never let anyone read it, not even Ryan. She knows of it, though. And if heaven forbid anyone find it, they would discover the most recent entry is about a certain Aussie staying down the hall.
I put on makeup and and go to my sticker box. I pull out a few Lisa frank ones and stick some on my hands. If I tried to explain my style, I would be looked at even more strangely than I already am. Ryan says that we don't try to fit the standards of "the man". But I dress like how I feel: different, and how I want to be: carefree.
When I get downstairs I see Luke is already in the kitchen, eating toast.
He looks up, and I notice what he's wearing. Black skinny jeans, a black Ramones shirt, and black converse high tops. He looked like a dream.
"Hey."
"Hey. You ready for school?"
"Eh..." I couldn't help but laugh at his answer. I grab an apple and sit across from him.
"So, do you have your schedule yet?"
"No. I guess since I'm new they think I'll lose it, so I'm getting it at school."
"Oh, that makes sense." It's silent between us, but not uncomfortable. After we finish eating, Ryan texts me saying she's outside. I wonder if Luke's okay with walking to school.
"Uh so Ryan and I usually walk to school. But if you don't want to I could get my mom to take you before she goes to work. It's not that far though."
He stands up and puts his plate in the sink."No, walking's fine. Is Ryan here?"
"Yep, so we can go now."
We walk out the kitchen and towards the front door. "Bye mom, bye dad!"
"Wait! Luke, do you have everything you need?"
"Yes, Mrs. Morgan. Thank you for everything."
"No problem!"
"I'm great too, mom. Thanks."
"Love you sweetie."
We walk outside and Ryan is waiting by the gate. She's wearing a plaid skirt, a black tank top, and a fur jacket. On her eyes are neon pink heart shaped glasses. "You look rad."
"Thanks Ry."
"You look nice too, Andy. But I was talking to Luke." She takes off her glasses, placing them on top of her head.
Me and Luke smile. "Of course you were."
We start walking, passing our neighbors and head towards school. "So I have a question for you, Andy."
"Sure, Luke, what's up?"
"Don't take this the wrong way, but why do you have a guys name?"
I laugh and look before we cross the street. "My parents wanted a boy. They would have named him after my dad's name, which is Andrew. So they just named me that and call me Andy."
"So, you're a junior? Andy jr.?" Luke couldn't help but laugh, and Ryan and I joined in. "Yeah, I guess so."
As we get closer to school, I start to recognize some girls. I would think they recognize me and that's why they're staring, but then I realize they're all staring at Luke. This doesn't surprise me. After all, he is breathtaking. I look at Luke and notice he's been silent for a while. I nudge him and he looks up. "You nervous?"
He puts his hands in his pockets and nods a bit. My heart flutters at how cute he is. I smiled at him."Don't be."
He smiled and we finished walking to school.
