Alex and Charley meet at the landing zone for the airships that will take the new students to Beacon Academy. Standing together, waiting for the airship to arrive. A few other students are in the waiting area for the airship but the main crowd will arrive soon.
"Are you ready?" Alex asks.
"I think so, Signal said it prepared us."
"Hey, you unlocked your semblance last year."
"I don't think fast reflexes is a semblance. At least not entirely a semblance."
"You still can't control it?"
"No, it still activates at seemingly random times." Charley stares at his hand as he opens and closes it slowly.
"Mmmm..."
"Mmmm what?" Charley asks.
"You're telling the truth."
"You needed to use your semblance for that?" Charley asks, confused.
"Sure, why not?" She smiles.
"You're weird."
"Not as weird as the time we were camping and you asked me to snuggle." She grins.
"I did not ask that."
"Yes you did."
"I asked if we could share body heat, it was below zero. We still had a day's hike back."
"All I hear are excuses." Charley groans in frustration.
"You're just like my parents, making a big deal out a little thing."
While they bicker, the crowd of new students show up to the landing platform. An airship arrives only a minute later. Landing, it's doors open and a lady with shoulder length blond hair exits the airship to usher students into the ship.
"Come on students, this way." She instructs, directing the crowd through the door she came out of.
A brawl between a few students over who should get in the door breaks out, causing a massive delay to getting on the airship.
"Boys!" The lady shouts. "Dueling is only allowed in a sanctioned area on school grounds, not here."
Using her whip shaped wand, she casts a protective bubble around the two and moves them into the airship.
"Anyone else, and I'll blast you." She warns. "Why they make me come out here every time, I'll never understand."
"Are you two done yet?" An annoyed Faunus asks the still bickering Charley and Alex.
"Yes, come on Charley. We've got a bird to catch." Charley shakes his head.
"All I'm saying it that-"
"Ahh, she said no more arguing." Alex stops Charley.
"That's not what I said."
"Well, it's what you meant." Alex corrects.
"True."
Not far from this conversation stands a very nervous Cat, clutching her two new katanas. Her head is covered by her black hoodie, only showing bumps where her Faunus car ears would be. A tall man approaches her.
"Hey, I'm Ze." He introduces, reaching his hand out to shake hers.
"Cat." She accepts his hand shake.
"New to Vale?" Her eyes widen as she nods quickly.
"Not to worry, I can show you around once we get into Beacon."
"Cool." She states.
They shuffle forward in the massive line for the airships. While waiting for the airships, groups of students start singing songs to pass the time. Eventually everyone gets on board the airship. The single airship might be enough for the first year students but all students at beacon are taking the single transport to Beacon. Something that will hopefully change soon. As the airship approaches Beacon, the lady with the short blond hair pushes to a door to lead the students through Beacon's campus.
As soon as the doors open on the airship, students poured out of the cramped space. Even those like Ze who were very close with their villages felt cramped on the ride. All students began making their way toward the auditorium to meet their school's director, Professor Ozpin. Within minutes the auditorium is packed with the students. The white haired man with sunglasses takes the stage.
"For those who don't know, I'm Professor Ozpin. It is a pleasure to see you all here. Per Professor Goodwitch's recommendation, we will add an additional airship to transport student to and from Vale." The audience cheers. "I wish you all the best in your studies this year. I will leave you with a word of advice... persistence. Thank you."
The lady with the short blonde hair walks up and onto the stage.
"Students, first years will stay in the auditorium for tonight. All other students are dismissed to their dorms." The upper class men shuffle out and when only first year students remain, she continues. "We have sets of sleeping bags for all of you. Have a good nights rest, because tomorrow is your team selection day. Thank you and goodnight."
She leaves the auditorium and a visible stack of sleeping bags is resting in the corner of the room. Students pile into the corner of the room to claim a sleeping bag. Eventually the chaos dies down and students begin falling asleep. Charley and Alex choose to sleep near each other as do Ze and Cat. The lights in the room dim, only the moon lit sky illuminates the room now.
"Charley." A whisper, barely heard by anyone.
"What?" The muffled reply from Charley.
"What do you think we're doing tomorrow?"
"I'd rather sleep and find out."
"You're so boring, no guess work going on in that mind of yours?"
"Ok, ok." He stirs and sits up. "If I answer, can you please let me sleep?"
"Of course."
"There will probably be some sort of competition to determine the teams."
"I could have figured that one out."
"It's the best I've got."
"Seriously?" Her voice drops to show her annoyance.
"Yep." He rolls over, pulling the edge of the sleeping bag over his head. "Now, I will sleep."
Alex sighs, looking up toward the sky. "I would have been better off asking a Professor."
