Lissa didn't want to go to the council meeting today but she was going to be seen as weak. So she had to go, they would decide whether or not to change the age law back to how it was. If she could lower the age it would mean so much to Rose.

Lissa stepped out of her room with two guardians on either side of her. They all had name tags on. The guardian to her immediate right was her temporary head of Guardians. He was a tall skinny guy, one who seemed like he would fit in better with chess club than a bunch of killing machines.

When Lissa arrived to the council meeting Ariana Slezky rose to give her a hug.

"My family sends their regards." She whispered  her ear. When she pulled away Lissa had tears brimming in her eyes. She nodded and took her spot.

Let the meeting begin.

The meeting lasted many hours. But in the end the age went back up to 18 years old. Lissa's side had won. After everyone cleared out she made her way to the infirmary...to see Rose. She had her three main guardians wait outside. She pulled up a chair next to Rose, and grabbed her hand.

"We won Rose...we won." She said choking back tears. But soon the tears spilled over and she cried for a few minutes. When she felt like it was out of her system she stood up. She still had to address people about the age law.

After she addressed the public there were celebrations and fireworks. Lissa didn't take part in any of them. She went home and cooked. She needed something to do. To keep busy.

She had overcooked some spaghetti with a very lumpy sauce. She had forces her guardians to wait outside to give her some privacy. However they continuously popped their head in to make sure she was okay. She always said "Yes I'm fine! Please leave!" She would call back each time.

She heard the door open. She was ready to start throwing things at them but she realized it was Christian and Dimitri. Dimitri was still in his break. But he most likely had the same thought process as Lissa. Keep doing things.

"Banishing the Guardians are we?" Christian asked teasingly. He had probably had a couple drinks out with people at the celebrations. Lissa shot a quick glance at Dimitri who seemed to not be paying attention really. His eyes were a little red. She walked over to him and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Go home Dimitri. Christian gave-" Lissa was cut off by Dimitris phone ringing. Lissa walked over to Christian to give Dimitri some privacy. She could make out some parts of the conversation.

"...emergency contact...incident..." as the conversation went on his face became more of a whiteboard. When he hung up he looked at Lissa.

"What was that about?" She asked nervous.

"That was the hospital...Rose flatlined and they had to recessitate her twice...the doctor said she almost died..." Dimitri finished. Lissa gasped, and clapped a hand over her mouth. Tears began to come to her eyes.

The food having been long forgotten, was left out. Nobody felt like eating. Lissa stayed in her room, Christian dismissed Dimitri.

Dimitri headed to the library to do some research. But he didn't find anything that would help...He felt so helpless. Normally Rose was the one who discovered things to solve their problems. It was like she was team leader. Now she was the one they were trying to save.

Rose had always been there for people: she helped Dimitri change back into a dhampir, she saved Lissa countless times. Even after she had dealt with spirits darkness she only wanted to help Lissa.

Days began to pass. Dimitri would visit Rose about once a week. As would Lissa. Then days began to turn to weeks. Sometimes Dimitri would get a call about Rose flatlining. He began to lose hope of Rose ever waking up.

Soon Lissa's birthday came around and everyone was celebrating.

Everyone but Rose.
