hermione's pov:
in my head, i believe there may be more i ought to have accomplished or should have carried out however the truth is i had lost control. and at that moment it felt like i was already dead.
i couldn't go back. the place i once referred to as home. where i felt the safest and most vulnerable. each inch of it is filled with memories. with the human beings i loved. gone.
it without a doubt pains me to think about that night. so i choose not to show it.
hogwarts was back and running normally as if nothing ever happened. roaming the empty fairly full halls where people once laid lifeless and the walls smudged in blood now clean.
it didn't sit right with me. not one bit. however i could not bear the thought of it anymore as much as i desire to start genuinely living again, that would simply be impossible. i would get nightmares, or the precise events would slither in my mind for the duration of the long days and play on repeat.

hermione sat overlooking the one of a kind view of hogwarts just from the window. her head leaned against the frozen glass making her cheek freeze up. ron sat beside her filling his mouth with food while harry was seated opposite observing ron in disgust. that was their friendship. the golden trio. one of a kind friendship.
the air was dead for about an hour till harry broke the silence. "i simply cannot believe the ministry agreed to let anyone go back this early, i did not get time to do any school-" "oh harry it was solely a week early i am certain they will let us off easy with the workload" ron butted in. hermione didn't think so. she assumed they would pile the students with greater work than ever. keep everyone 'distracted'.
"hermione you okay?" ron said putting his hand on her thigh snapping hermione out of her thoughts. "oh uh yeah just fine t-thanks?" she said slowly shifting her leg away to give ron a hint she needed space. "you sure? due to the fact ever since you set foot on the train you have been really to yourself-" "don't sugar coat it harry she's been quiet and we can tell somethings up so are you gonna speak or simply keep-"
she didn't mean to but he kept pushing her to talk being completely oblivious as to why she's as harry stated 'keeping to herself'. ron rubbed the crimson hand mark on his right cheek muttering "ouch" under his breathe."i need air" hermione rose from her seat storming out of the compartment slamming it shut leaving both the boys in shock.

hermione's pov:
why cannot they comprehend i desire to sit in silence?
we leave harry alone when his social battery dies or whatever goes through his mind however no they simply have to be on my ass questioning me because i'm the clever one who's always picking at peoples brains and by no means simply quiet out of nowhere.
did it ever cross their minds as soon as to why that may also be the case?
the war changes people unless you do not let it devour you entirely. however, that's exactly what it is done. i have no family. just those two, the weasleys and hogwarts of course.
i can not continue to be mad at them forever but for now, i need space to breathe before i suffocate

what felt like forever she was relieved to eventually locate an empty compartment. closing the door gently behind her she situated herself sideways leaning her head against the window. falling asleep to the thunder howling from outside and the small water droplets forming in her eyes.
about two hours pass by and the train has come to a halt. she was at the hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. she woke up to someone sitting opposite her along with her luggage at her feet."ron?" hermione whispered in confusion rubbing the sleep from her eyes. she couldn't tell who it was as the person had their head covered to keep them warm. the person took off their hood sitting up straight with their back still facing hermione.
she knew exactly who the individual was.
"do i look like a ginger to you granger?" the platinum blonde boy scoffed standing up grabbing his belongings. "oh and uh ron nor harry bought your luggage. i did" and with that, he left shutting the door behind him leaving hermione even more confused.
although she never got a clear view of his face she could tell he had changed. either for the better or worse she didn't know nor took much interest. his back was much broader through the black suit he wore and noticed how his hair used to be less slicked back however nevertheless rather neat."he was nowhere close to us so how would he know where my stuff was?" "why sit down in the same compartment as me? when surely there was a free one available." those were the thoughts running through her head.
shortly interrupted by hagrid yelling from outside "IF THERE IS ANYONE ELSE ON THE HOGWARTS EXPRESS PLEASE ESCORT YOURSELVES OFF IMMEDIATELY BEFORE THE TRAIN LEAVES IN 15"
that was hermiones cue.it took her a moment to compose herself before stepping off the train. the cold immediately hitting her nose inflicting a shiver from her.
this was it.
she was actually here.
standing on the battlefield.
once again.
it took all of her now not to break right there. run back on the train and go back. instead, she walked closer to the carriages where everybody else was waiting around. she spotted harry and ron giving them a wave. harry noticed motioning ron to come with him and they both walked over to her.
"hermione where had been you? you did not come back so we assumed you have been the first off the train and-" "i'm fine harry. i was just getting changed" she said making an attempt to calm him down.it was sweet how he worried for her but he had his hands full. harry nodded "i'll wait for the carriages then be proper back." watching him run back to the crowd she then centred her attention on ron who was already staring at her.
she gave a small smile and he exchanged the gesture. "so uh you prefer to discuss about what came about back there or you want to drop it?" ron questioned. she wasn't certain if it was him placing his hand on her thigh or her slapping him. "i want to apologise as that was by no means my intention. i just wanted space is all so let's drop it and move forward?"she thought that was an appropriate apology. though she came across very defensive they had been wrong for bombarding her with endless questions.
he nodded before grabbing her hand heading in the direction of the carriage harry was seated on. harry noticed the way ron was smiling and smiled to himself knowing they had sorted out the little altercation on the train.
