Jah's team made state the night before and his dad wasn't around to witness it. But not for the lack of trying. The man's jet couldn't take off, something about a bad weather. But he'd live-streamed the entire thing. He did make it back early this morning though, surprising Jah with hella gifts and loud toneless birthday songs. Now Jah sat on the stairs that faced the mahogany front door while everyone else were partying and having fun, waiting for time to quickly go by, so he could get back to playing GTA, he and X had an important mission to get through. Now that was what he called a perfect birthday celebration.
As he sat there thoughts of what Xander said about his relationship with football plagued his thoughts. He hadn't thought about it before now, but he wondered if there was any truth to it. I mean he did love football— right?
Yeah, yeah he loved it. How could he not? Jah decided.
I mean it had nothing to do with the fact that the first school he'd applied to was MIT. He didn't really feel like he was hiding that little detail from everyone, he just didn't think it was any of their business. So what if he was lowkey a tech genius? That's cool right?
I think so. He reassured himself.Jah caught a glimpse of his parents doing shots and cheering loudly, his dad held his mom over the ping pong table while she did her thing, with everyone else gassing them up. He smiled and shook his head, he was convinced they threw this 'Jah's birthday party' for themselves every year. They always ended up having more fun than he ever did, and they always got entirely too drunk and happy. Good thing his friends thought his parents were the coolest thing to ever walk this earth though, that way they didn't tag them 'lame', and they ate everything up. Matter of fact, he was sure his friends loved his parents more they loved him. At least they were fun, whereas Jah was serious like a mf.
Jah still had a smile on his face when the direction of his gaze shifted from his parents to the front door, he caught X's shit-eating grin right before his friend practically ran from the door to meet Tod Jenkins in the bouncy castle area. Yeah his parents really set up a bouncy castle in an 18 year old's party.
This was his life.He turned to look at the still open door and saw Xan, his breath caught, rendering him speechless and borderline drooling. He had to quickly shut his mouth before anyone else noticed.
Xan walked straight to him, their eyes met and for a second, they seemed alone in the room.
Jahsae cleared his throat, which was something he had a habit of doing whenever he was uncomfortable. It served to break the tension, especially when he said, "You look— different."Xan smiled. "Different good, or different bad?"
"Different different."
"Woow..." Xan muttered amusedly. "That was enlightening, and profound." He teased.
Jah chuckled and shrugged. "What can I say? You looked good before, and you look good now, it's just different. But I like it. Is that better?"
Xan was full on grinning now, not to mention blushing, although he was hiding the latter very well. "Yeah it is, much better."
They both stood there smiling at each other for a bit before Jah noticed his parents calling out to him. "I'm about to go play my dutiful son role, but I'll find you in a bit."
Xan nodded, then said. "Happy birthday."
"Thank you. And I'm glad you're here." Jah replied. He bent down a little bit and pecked the other male on the cheek briefly and walked off. Not caring how that almost crippled the boy right then and there.
