The final wish
The dragon say down on the mountain ledge, looking out at the sunset with tears in it's eyes. It was nice to watch the sunset, knowing that there was a new day tomorrow. Tomorrow, when dragons can change and the future can get better. The dragon on the ledge smiled at the sunset, reflecting on everything that happened since their escape.
I can't return to my tribe; either of them. I'm dead to both of them. Tears fell onto the rocky mountainside after they trailed down the dragon's face. I'm so sorry, Macaw, but I can't come home. Not anymore.
Ghost is dead. There's nothing that I've wanted more than to see his corruption leave this world. And now I can leave the past behind me.
The hood fell off of the dragon's face, and their talon subconsciously grabbed it to pull it back up... but stopped. The dragon looked up, wiping away her tears and watching the sunset again. Her beautiful yet menacing red eyes were full of pain, grief, sadness. She had to leave everything behind, for the benefit of others. Her daughter finally could live her dream in peace, with friends and family of her own. Her son could live without troubles, being raised by his father. The brave souls who had helped her could rest... everyone could move on, but not without her sacrifice. A sacrifice she was willing to make. But it hurt, so much, that everyone saw her just as a spirit, a ghost of the past. True, they all thought she was dead.
If there's anything she learned from her ex-husband, it's how to trick others. And so she did. Because if she didn't, Ghost wouldn't have died. And now that her duty was done, she wasn't sure that she could return back to the real world, to be alive again. After all, if everyone thinks you're dead, how could you go back?
She watched the world, proud of what it had become. Dragons don't get along easily, but they're learning. Perhaps, now she would be able to pass on.
But something... something felt wrong. Almost as if the stars themselves were warning her of danger.
Her son... wasn't exactly the greatest dragon that ever lived. He had a concerning lust for blood, that's all she really knew. She watched him closely whenever she could, keeping him safe and trying to help him make the right decisions without actually being noticed. It wasn't easy, but it was her duty. As a mother. As a friend.
Her pitch-black scales made a contrast against the colorful sunset, especially since the colors didn't reflect off of the dark surfaces. She sighed, wishing she could go back to when her scales shown bright in the moonlight that she had been named after. Her dark blue scales, the soft green eyes... she always hoped for her life to suddenly go back to normal, but that never happened.
She would joke with her friends. Argue with her parents. Protect her best friend in the whole world. Love them all.
But it had been ripped away after her "best friend in the whole world" changed it. She had loved him too much to see past his fake smile. She had been blinded from reality, trusting him, until he snapped.
"Why did it have to be you, Wraith? Why? You were such a sweet, caring little dragon. No one would want to hurt you..." Moonglow cried, her claws scraping across the rock in frustration, in anger, in grief. Ghost deserved everything he got. No, he deserved worse. But it was too late. He was gone, and she didn't need to worry about revenge.
She did have to worry about one other dragon, though. After having lost her first son through carelessness, she wasn't about to let another one down. Troubled as Anti may be, he was still important to her. She quickly pulled her hood back up and disappeared once more to find Anti. The tiny droplets of her tears still running down the mountain.
