"Aaron?" I heard someone say. "Aaron, wake up!" I felt someone grabbing my shoulders, then moments later, shaking me.
"What the fuck? Stop, I'm trying to sleep!" I said, waving my hands around, trying to stop whoever was shaking me.
"Dude! You need to wake up! The fucking movies finished, and I'm pretty sure I just heard someone pull into the driveway, and if I'm right, that would be your mum. So get the fuck up!" I opened my eyes and jumped up off the couch, running over to the DVD player, and packing the disc away before mum could get inside. I just got back to sitting on the couch, when mum unlocked the door. I grabbed my phone and checked the time, 2:53 am.
"Aaron?" Mum asked, as she walked into the kitchen, placing bags on the bench. "Why are you still up? Who's that? And why are the lights all off?"
"Hey! I'm Ben! And you are?" Ben introduced himself, standing up and walking towards my mum.
"Aaron?" Mum looked at me, confused as to why, a boy called Ben was in our house.
"Mum, I met him today, he's a friend." I explained, walking over to the light switch, trying to turn the lights on, soon finding out that the power had turned off again. "Fucking, why was the TV working, but the lights aren't? What the hell?" I asked, eyebrows raised in confusion.
"Language, Aaron!" Mum said, causing me to roll my eyes. "So, Ben's your new friend, is he?" She asked, after I just told her.
"Yes mum. He's my friend." I explained to her for the second time.
"Okay, just making sure!" She explained and walked upstairs and into her room, leaving Ben and I alone, and it wasn't hard to tell that Ben was confused and didn't know what she meant at all.
"What was that about?" Ben asked, making the situation more awkward than it already was. "You know, your mum 'making sure' I was your friend?" He asked again.
"I-uh... It's-I... Fuck, it's really hard to explain, just drop it." I told him, trying desperately, to change the subject.
"Just tell me, please. You can trust me." He reassured me, still slightly confused.
"Fuck-I... I'm-ah... I'm gay." I told him. For a few seconds, he seemed surprised, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if he didn't want to be my friend anymore, I mean, it would be awkward for him. "Fucking hell, I'm sorry, I-"
"Aaron, don't apologize! You can't help being gay dude, and it's totally fine with me, I mean, I understand why your mum was so curious now. But dude, I'm totally fine with it. To be honest, I'm as straight as a fucking rainbow, so don't worry, you aren't alone!" He told me, leaving me even more shocked than what he was when I told him.
"So, you're gay too?" I asked. If I said I knew exactly what was going on, that would be a lie, because I'm so fucking confused right now.
"Well... Not exactly, you see, I still haven't figured it out yet, but I know I like guys, so that's a start..." He told me.
"Okay, this makes me being gay a lot less awkward now." I told him, and grabbed a glass and walked over to the sink, filling it up with water. I took a huge sip of water, in hopes that it would calm me down, after waking up and having to tell my newish friend that I'm gay. After I finished, I put the glass in the sink and walked back into the lounge room, and sat on the couch for a while.
If that wasn't awkward, than I don't know what is. And to be honest, I'm not exactly the best, when it comes to awkward situations, or large crowds of people staring at you for absolutely no reason at all. At the moment, that was exactly what Ben was doing, staring at me for absolutely no reason at all. "Ben?" I asked, getting his attention.
