Giant anteaters have no teeth; however, their long tongues are able to lap up on average 35,000 ants (and termites) per day. In order to access their food, to begin with, the anteater will use its creepy, long and sharp claws to make an opening in an anthill and thrust its long snout into the hole, before flicking its tongue up to 150 times per minute. The anteater may only spend around a minute per anthill as the ants can retaliate with painful stings. Anteaters will never destroy an anthill as they like to return to them in the future.
