"Holy sh-, somebody help her!"
"Oh my God, Haley!"
"She's freaking cold, I don't think she's gonna make it."
"She's unconscious."
"There's a great loss of blood from the back of her head, and more hemorrhaging from the guttural area."
"She was attacked."
"Oh, sh-, Haley, wake up please! Haley, please!"
Voices rang through my ears, but I only recognized one, Ezra's. I could hear him sobbing, pleading for me to wake up. I didn't know what state of consciousness I was in-I could hear everything around me. But agony drowned out all my other senses.
Was this what it felt like to be frozen? Did people freeze to death like this? Able to think, but not able to respond?
"Haley, please, wake up!" Ezra continued to shout hysterically. "You can't leave me like this! I need you! I'll do anything for you, just please wake up!"
I wanted to, but I knew the life was draining out of me. Blood was gushing out of me, taking my life together with it. I could no longer feel any part of my body.
This was the end. This was my time.
Wait, no. What was I thinking? I was seventeen, I was young. How could I die like this? How could I be just another one of the reapers' victims?
No, I had to stay strong.
My family needed me. Ezra needed me.
Stay.
Strong.
"Oh, holy cow!" The man's voice was unusually clear.
"What, what is it?" Another man, on my right.
"We've got a pulse."
"What? A pulse?"
"Yeah, but her heartbeat's unsteady. We need immediate assistance."
"Oh, my God...she's alive."
