(Time Skip to 2 am)

The sound of little metallic objects falling to the carpet, clinking each other as they pile up, wakes you from your deep sleep. In a hoarse voice, you mumble, "Hello? What's going on?... What was that?"

"Y/n! Go back to sleep. Everything's fine... I didn't mean to wake you up." you hear kurapika say in the corner, his whisper bouncing off the walls, for the room was dead silent apart from his soft voice.

You pull yourself out from under the covers and rest your elbows behind you, leaning on them. You rub your eyes vigorously, hoping it would make the room somewhat visible. "Kurapika." you glance at the clock, "It's 2 in the morning... is being up this late a normal routine of yours?"

"No... I just can't sleep. I figured I'd do some meditating. The silence could do me some good." He paused for a moment. "Now that I think about it, I must look awfully creepy sitting in the corner with my legs crossed in the middle of the night."

"I can't really see anything; my eyes are still adjusting, but yeah, I guess that sounds a bit strange," you say with a forced pep in your voice, trying not to reveal how crabby you are.

"Oh yeah, I forgot to ask. What fell?"

"I dedicate the time that I meditate to mastering my nen. That was the sound of my chains piling up on each other. I forgot you were here for a minute and got carried away. I apologize."

Your vision starts to adjust to the darkness, so you look at Kurapika in the corner. He looks dismal and tired. You arch your back as you stretch it and climb out of bed, heading for the corner he's in. You kneel next to him

In a voice that shifts from clear to scratchy, you say to him, "Hey, I know I don't know you very well, but I can tell the difference between not being able to sleep and not wanting to sleep."

"Thanks for your concern... To be honest, my mental health hasn't exactly been ideal. I've been so focused on Chrollo that I haven't been taking very good care of myself. The only time that I have time to train or have time to myself is very late at night." The blonde says, his mouth gradually stooping downward into a frown.

Here I go again. Feeling bad for this guy. Maybe I'll stay up with him tonight. He seems like he's going through something. Some support could help him out

"Alright, Kurapika." you grab his hand and help him up. "Tell you what, I'll stay up with you tonight, and we can just get to know each other and get your mind off of all the stressful things you're going through right now...does that work for you?"

"No, you should get some rest y/n. I put you through too much today," he says while using your shoulder as support to stand. "I'll be fine, ok?"

"Tsk tsk tsk... Too bad. I'm staying up until one of us falls asleep, kay?"

"Suit yourself. I'm not helpless, you know? But if you wanted to stay up... I guess that'd be ok."

Without thinking, you playfully push his shoulder. "Oh quit the acttt, don't act so macho. I probably won't be able to fall back asleep anyway, so it'll be fun!"

Uh oh, maybe that was a bit premature of me... I'm getting way too comfortable

He squeezes your shoulder with his face in front of yours, closes his eyes, and nods his head. Although he didn't say anything, the look on his face says a lot. You feel your face start to get warm.

He's so close to me... I can only begin to describe his beauty. The way his silky blonde hair cascades down the side of his face, barely grazing his shoulders when he tilts his head. His nose has a prominent inward slope between his eyes and peaks upward above his lips. His smile is so gentle. It immediately makes me feel safe. Maybe I was trying so hard to push aside these feelings that I didn't even realize I had them in the first place.

You pull yourself out of your trance and notice his eyes are open, gazing deeply into yours.

Just when I thought he couldn't get any more handsome... look at those eyes. I want to turn the light on for the sole purpose of seeing them better.

"Sorry for zoning out for a while there... guess I'm just tired."

"No need to be sorry; I'm a wreck as well."

You both smile and sit on Kurapika's bed, both pretty exhausted but eager to get to know more about each other.

"So y/n, how'd you end up in Yorknew?"

"Well, I've lived in the area all my life. I grew up on the outskirts of town, but once I moved out of my childhood home, I got a small apartment in the city. Growing up, I was pretty poor. I had pretty lousy parents. They were both raging alcoholics with too much pent-up aggression for their own good... but I'd rather not get into that...so yeah... How 'bout you? How'd you end up here?"

"Well, I passed the hunter exam, learned nen, and two months later, I came to Yorknew when I found out about the auction. I knew the troupe would be here from... a rather strange magician. Shortly after learning nen and perfecting my ability, I became a bodyguard working under the Nostrade family. I'm waiting to meet up with some friends I made during the Hunter Exam. I've really been looking forward to it...and now I'm here! There's definitely a lot more to it, but that's about it.~"

"Jeez... That's a hell of a lot of stuff you did in such little time, Kurapika..."

He passed the hunter exam AND mastered nen? Is there anything he can't do?

"The time went by so fast... And now it seems all I think about is revenge on the troupe. That's one of the only things I care about. That and my friends, of course."

You both sit in silence for a moment, but you soon break it with a bold confession. "Kurapika, I should hate you. But I don't... In fact, I think you're a remarkable person who has a good heart. You don't kill for pleasure or personal gain. You kill for the innocent lives of the loved ones you've lost. I look up to you."

Kurapika decides to match your bold behavior. He cups your hand into his and gently rubs the top of yours with his thumb. "Thank you y/n, I was starting to think I was changing for the worse lately, but what you just said made me feel a thousand times better. From what you've said since I've met you, you seem like a great person too."

You feel your face starting to heat up. It's clear that kurapika can tell that your face is pink, but he doesn't seem to care. He's more focused on holding your hand. You both sit, staring into each other's eyes as he continues to rub his thumb on the top of your hand. Surprisingly, it's not awkward. The silence isn't uncomfortable; the hand-holding isn't uncomfortable. You both just sit there, becoming more and more tired, enjoying each other's presence, and smiling.

"I should probably go to sleep... I don't know how much longer I can keep my eyes open. I know I said I'd stay up, but I'm not sure I can."

"That's ok; I think I'll be able to sleep now. I feel so much better after talking to someone. Thank you, for real, you helped me more than you think." The blonde said mid-yawn.

You both slowly let go of each other's hands and get under the comforters of your separate beds. While falling asleep, you don't stop thinking about him.

This is so strange... I've never gotten so close to someone so fast before. We held hands... And it didn't even feel weird. It felt natural like it was supposed to happen for that exact amount of time at that exact moment. I wonder what the future will bring...
