Tonight was the red moon festival. For most elves means the red moon nothing, but for a small village in the south of the land, it was the time of the year to celebrate.

The elves prepared for a whole week to make this festival even better than the one they had last year. It was a tradition to make it better.

It was still the beginning of the evening. Elves where chatting everywhere, the children playing with each other. There was enough food for a few days placed on large tables in the middle of the village.

When the older elves weren't looking the children grabbed some food off the tables. Of course, the parents knew that it would happen, but they let the kids be.

When the first sight of the red moon has been seen the music starts. For the elves of the village, it was an honour to play music at the night of the red moon.

They believe that the moon will bless the village with wealth and happiness.

The overall mood of the whole night was peaceful, but that changes as soon as out of nowhere an elf taller than most of them entered the village. His appearance, not one you want to encounter. Eyes screaming for blood, one of his ears is half cut off and many scars littered his body. Dark grey armour with dried up blood on it.

Behind him is his weapon being pulled along. A sword, large and sharp. One that easily can cut through flesh.

He looks around seeing if there is something special here. One of the few knights of the village walks up to the man. The soldier, ahead smaller than the elf, politely asking him what he is doing in the village this late and if he needs a place to sleep.

The giant however does not answer his question. Instead, he grasps his sword firm and stabs the knight in his stomach making the smaller elf fall on the ground.

Chaos arose in the village. The knights grab their swords and try to defend the village. Everyone else tries to find a place to hide.

But it has no use. The giant elf defeats the knights with ease, leaving their bodies dead on the floor. After that, he goes to each of the houses making sure no one is leaving the village alive.

It is a horrific sight to see. The elf slaughtering every living thing he sees. Not caring if it's a bird or an elf.

What looked like a dead village was not enough for the beast. It was if he could feel that there was still a living soul around.

Slowly he makes his way through the village, searching for the last living thing.

It ended up hiding under one of the tables with food.

With his large hand, the elf grabs the elf, who was still a child and hold it up in the air.

The moonlight reflects in the eyes of the child. They are filled with fear. Their body paralyzed. The only thing they could do was watch.

Watch the countless bodies lying around the floor. Watch the smile on the face of the taller elf. Watch how he pushes them on the floor and watch how the sword was now high above their face.

The giant elf only let the sword hit the child once.

A large cut across the face would be enough to let the child bleed to death.

After the giant elf was done killing every living thing, he put the village on fire. Just to make sure everything is dead.

The next day the ruins of the village would be found by a shepherd of a nearby village. He and a few others tried looking for any survivors but it was no use. The village was absolute silence.

When they later tried to identify each of the corpses they found out one body was missing.

They didn't know if someone succeeded to escape or if the monster took someone or if something different happened.

It all happened when the red moon was at their highest point in the sky. Where before the red moon was a sign of hope. This night would go down in history as the night of the blood moon. The story would be told every year on the night of the red moon to remember the terrible night.
