October arrived sooner than anyone had anticipated.

Betelgeuse had celebrated her fourteenth birthday with her group of friends, receiving presents from them all, even from Oliver. The 29 of September had ended with Betelgeuse and the twins stuffing their faces with a pumpkin cream-filled cake the house-elves of Hogwarts had made for her. They already knew her too well.

The Autumn season had arrived spreading a damp chill over the grounds and into the castle. Madam Pomfrey, the nurse, was kept busy by a sudden spate of colds among the staff and students.

Raindrops the size of golden snitches thundered on the castle windows for days on end; the Black Lake rose, its bed turned into a muddy mass. Betelgeuse loved Autumn and its weather, but when she could stay protected from the harsh temperatures. Oliver's enthusiasm for regular training sessions, however, was not dampened.

Betelgeuse was walking back to the castle drenched to the skin and splattered with mud late one stormy Saturday afternoon a few days before Halloween. Even aside from the rain and wind, it hadn't been a fortunate practice session. Fred and George had been spying on the Slytherin team for some days and informed Wood that the Slytherins resembled seven greenish blurs, shooting through the air while flying on their Nimbus Two Thousand.

Wood had not been happy. He had vented his frustration making them drill new moves countless times.

As Betelgeuse squelched along the deserted corridor in silence with Fred and George she came across Peeves, the poltergeist at Hogwarts. "Oooooh! Ickle Weasleys! What mischief today? Oh, Miss blacky Black all muddy muddy, poor backy Black!"

Betelgeuse groaned, she did not have the energy to deal with the troublesome poltergeist tonight. Fond of mischief and chaos, Peeves was a constant pain to the school and its inhabitants, especially Filch. Betelgeuse and the twins had found out early in their time at Hogwarts that the only ones able to control him were the Bloody Baron and Dumbledore. Though, Peeves has taken into account students like Fred and George and help them with their chaos. He had a strange behaviour with Betelgeuse, he was mischievous but he had never caused too much trouble for the Black.

"Go away, Peeves. I am not in the mood tonight. I will call the Bloody Baron," Betelgeuse threatened the poltergeist. She saw him stiff in mid-air and run away without another word.

"Merlin's beard, Bel. What did poor Peeves do to you?" George asked grinning.

She just groaned in response.
