You were outside Mondstat gates, coming home from your recent adventures with Aether, the traveler. He had asked you to join him that day and running low on mora, you couldn't say no. You were wandering the streets, mindlessly looking around and counting how much mora you got.
"578... 579... 580.. sigh, only 580! That's barely enough to buy anything a the tavern!" Thoughts of getting kicked out again and moving somewhere else filled your mind, "I don't have enough money to pay for this months rent... I'd have to go to Inazuma if I want to not be known... but all my friends" thinking to yourself, not paying attention, you didn't notice you had walked yourself back to the tavern. A comfort place.
You sighed again, and opened the door of the place and stepped in. You saw Diluc behind the bar, which was a rare sight now of days.
He was always so busy with other things that taking care of the tavern was far out of his concern. Thinking of new job ideas, since obviously the adventurers guild isn't paying enough, you have an idea.
Once the bar calms down, people are sitting with their friends and chatting amongst themselves, you waltz over to the bar again, where Diluc is sitting there cleaning some wine glasses. You sit down, across from him and he simply "hm?"s at you.
You try to form a sentence, who would've thought that talking to the Mr. hot mans of Mondstat would be hard.
He stops and looks at you for a moment, "Are you going to talk, (y/n)?" He states blatantly. "I- so, you still have hiring posters outside..." you stumble over your words, trying to figure out the right way to ask this. "Yes. Yes we do."
He says back, going back to pour a glass of dandelion wine. He walks back over and hands the glass to you "you haven't drank anything yet. What seems to be the matter?" He says, ignoring the fact you're deep in thought. You look back up, finally having a sentence. "Thank you.. I was wondering if I could apply to work here? I happen to be needing a few extra mora.." you say, your words slowly getting progressively quieter and harder to hear.
He came back in front of your stool, and leaned down on the counter. "Yes. You're always welcome here" you swear you saw him smile, but when you went to go look closer, it was back to his aloof face.
"T-Thank you! I really have been needing this and now I don't have to leave to go to Inazuma since I've already been in Liyue Harbor and Wangshu Inn and they both kicked me out and now with the Tavern I'll be able to pay my rent an-" you start rambling on and on, happy as ever.
He cut you off by saying "you can't be getting tipsy while you work" taking your empty glass that you hadn't even noticed you chugged out of anxiety. "Tomorrow I will be on duty again here. Meet me here in the morning for some training and the basics of making the drinks. Do you think you're cut out for a customer service job?" He asked.
"Are you saying that I'm a mean person?!" You say jokingly, he stifles a laugh and you watch some of the people leave the bar. "I hadn't noticed I came so late.." you said, watching them slowly file out the door in a drunkenly manner. After Diluc had yelled the rest of the stragglers out of the bar, he turned to you, now on the other side of the bar.
He said, "can you help me clean up? I mean you do work here now" with what looks like a pleading face. You giggled and grabbed a broom.
Once sweeping you went back to the bar to see Diluc half awake with his head resting on the counter.
"Are you feeling okay?" You asking him, sitting down next to him.
"... just at a loss for words" he said, slowly rising up.
You were about to question him again before he pulled you in for a hug. You froze up, trying to figure out where his 'change of heart' came from.
You sighed and dug into his chest with your face, embracing it. "I've wanted to do this for so long, now I can" he said, resting his head on yours. You blush, trying to stay calm and just snuggle into his chest further.
