Marina Rewritten

Lasagna

Maya's POV:

It had been a tough day so far, Rigo Vasquez was in the hospital probably under surgery by now and Andy had called Maya out in front of the entire crew. Maya went into her office to collect herself and file some paperwork about the incident. She knew Chief Dixon would be on her ass about the situation, and to be honest she was still processing what happened. Maya blamed herself for what happened, but what else was she supposed to have done? Both agreed that they would be able to work with each other. So Maya trusted them for their word, but apparently it wasn't true. There was a quick knock on her door, and Maya looks up from the paper she's filling out. A beautiful tall brunette walks in with a container, "Hi" she says upon entering. Maya remembers the morning events that brought them very close, causing her cheeks to redden a bit. 

M:" Well hello! I wasn't expecting to see you this afternoon.What's up?"

C:" I saw Warren at the hospital and he said it was a tough day, so I brought you lasagna!"

When she gets up to Maya's desk, she opens the container and the letting the steam out and the smell catches Maya's attention. From the freshly cut basil to the aroma of ripe tomato, Maya's stomach began to grumble. 

M:"I haven't eaten lunch yet that is so kind of you." Maya gets up and walks around her desk, leaning against it. "Have you eaten yet?"

C:" I actually ate lunch with my brother this afternoon, so it's all yours." She says, handing Maya the container. Maya stands up and wraps her arms around Carina's waist. Bringing their faces closer and closer, Maya says ," You know, the lasagna smells almost as good as you." Carina giggles as she closes the gap between them. Carina wrapped her arm around Maya's shoulder, bringing them closer together as their tongues danced with each other. After a few minutes, Maya's grumbling stomach overtook her. She pulled away from Carina, missing the contact immediately. Carina gives her a puzzles looks, Maya answers with a glance at the lasagna. This causes Carina to laugh, Maya loved Carina's laugh. It was so gentle, but sexy it drove her crazy. 

M:" Why don't you sit down and tell me about your day while I eat. I'd love to hear about it!" She says walking to the other side of her desk and pulling a fork out of one of the desk drawers. 

C:" Okay. I have to get back to Grey-Sloan in a little bit, but I do have a few minutes to spare for you" she says winking at Maya as she dug into the lasagna.

M:" Oh my God, Carina this is amazing. Did you make this?"

C:" Yes haha, I am from Italy remember? It's my specialty."

M:" Right. How could I forget? So did anything crazy for you today?" She said between bites.

C:" Nothing super crazy today. We discovered one of our mothers needed an emergency c-section because her baby somehow switched into a breached position. "

M:" Uhm, I can't remember what that means. It's been a while since I have studied anything about labor and delivery."

C:" In a typical birth, the baby is delivered head first. With a breach baby, they are in position to have their feet down instead of their head. It's very difficult for the mother to naturally birth, so we generally have to operate to get the baby out."

M:" Ah, yes. Thank you for the reminder."

C:" Thank you for having me Bella, but I have to get back. My lunch break is almost over sadly."

M:" Ahh, I was just getting started. But there will be plenty of time for another time."

C:" There will?"

M:" I would very much like there to be. Would you want to go to dinner sometime? Vic has told me about a really good Italian restaurant you might like"

C:" I would love to. We can coordinate our schedules and come up with a day that will work for both of us."

M:" Wonderful, well can I at least walk you out to your car?"

C:" Of course."

Maya stops at the Beanery on their way out to rinse out Carina's container, and hands it back to her. Carina marvels at the fire engine.

M:" One of these days if you stop by, I'll give you a tour."

C:" I would love that."

They get out to Carina's car, and before Carina gets in, Maya pulls her in connecting their lips for a tender goodbye kiss. When they pull apart, Carina licks her lips. 

C:" Wow that lasagna really was good " she ways winking at Maya, who giggles at the comment. 

M: " I'll text you my schedule and we can figure out what works for both of us. Have a wonderful day Carina, thank you again for the lasagna."

C:" Of course Bello. Ciao"

With that, she climbs into her car, and drives away. Maya walks back to her office, unable to wipe the smile off her face. No one has ever made her this happy before.
