Danielle POV:
Danielle was awoken by the flight attendant announcing that they would arrive at Catania Fontanarossa Airport in about 10 minutes. She yawned and stretched her arms and legs from the long flight. She looked at her watch and the time read 7:44pm, but her watch was still set to LA time. Once she had made it off the plane, she pulled out her phone and it was almost 5 am in Italy. She looked up the nearest hotel, called a taxi and reserved a room for the next couple nights. This was an extremely last minute trip, Danielle decided to leave that afternoon when she found out that her best friend had been sleeping with her boyfriend and she needed to get away. She had been wanting to go to Italy for quite some time, so she decided to buy a ticket to Sicily. She walked into the room, put her bags down, and collapsed on her bed. It was a fairly comfy mattress, and the jet lag was causing her eyelids to become heavy and she drifted off to sleep.
She awoke to the sun shining through the gap between the curtains. Her body ached out of exhaustion as she got up off the bed. She walked up and opened the curtains. The sun temporarily blinded her as it shined in her eyes, causing her to see spots for a few seconds. Looking down at the streets of Sicily, last night she had been too preoccupied to notice how beautiful it was. The streets were lined with carts of vendors selling various fruits and vegetables. She looked over at the alarm clock and it read 2:17pm. Wow I slept for a long time. She thought to herself, as she started unpacking her bags. She walked over to try to wash the tiredness off her face, the cool water was very refreshing as it touched her face. She finished washing her face and brushed her teeth. After feeling a bit more refreshed, she decided to put on a fresh pair of clothes. She put on a plain white tee shirt and some light blue skinny jeans. She decided to put her white converse on to pull the outfit together.
After she finished tying her shoes, she wanted to go outside and get some fresh air. As she walked up the street, she decided to stop at what looked like a friendly cafe to grab a cappuccino. As she opened the door, the bell that hung above it rang.
Stefania POV:
Usually, she never looked up when the bell rang. She was usually so immersed in her book that the outside world did not concern her but today she found herself distracted. She had been trying to read the same single page for the last 5 minutes, but little things kept distracting her causing her to start over. After giving it a few tries, she folded the corner of the page down and set the book down on the table. She took a drink of her afternoon coffee, and found herself looking around the cafe. The next thing she knew, the bell rang once again but her eyes were drawn to the soul that walked in. She had a very casual outfit, white shirt and shoes with light jeans on. She looked American. Stefania had been to America a number of times, but she always ended up back home. She had long blonde hair that flowed over her shoulders. She was beautiful, but she looked tired. She tried to mind her business, but she could tell the blonde was struggling with her coffee order at the desk. Stefania took it upon herself to save the day. She walked up to the blonde, attempting to place an order.
"Hello, I couldn't help but overhear you trying to order coffee in Italian. Just tell me what you usually get and I can tell the barista." she said. The blonde had large beautiful blue eyes, making it easy for her to get lost in them.
"Um thanks, I was just going to get a large oat milk cappuccino. I've been trying to learn Italian, but learning a new language doesn't really come easy to me."
" I definitely understand, it took me years to learn basic English." She turned to the barista and said "Vorrebbe un grande cappuccino al latte d'avena" the native language flowing flawlessly off of her tongue. The barista acknowledged what she said immediately and began typing a few things into the screen. After a few seconds, a total popped upon the screen and Danielle pulled out her wallet to pay for the drink, but by the time she had gotten her card out, Stefania had already handed cash to the barista to pay for the drink. "The barista took the cash and asked Stefania, "Che nome metto sulla tazza?" The blonde glared at Stefania, " You don't have to pay for my drink. Also, what did she say?"
"She asked for the name to put on the cup."
"Oh, my name is Danielle" she said looking at the barista. She nodded, wrote something down, then walked away to begin the order.
Stefania watched the blonde put her wallet away, and look back up at her causing their eyes to meet. " So you know my name, what is yours?" she asked.
" Oh, yes. Sorry, my name is Stefania. I come here almost every day, and I had never seen you here before."
"Yes, I am from the States, I am just visiting for the next couple of weeks. I needed to get away from home for a while."
" I see. There's a lot of amazing places to visit here in Italy, I'm sure you'll love it here."
"Yes, I am very excited. This trip was pretty last minute though so I don't really have an itinerary planned."
"Well let me give you my number and if you ever find yourself bored, or not sure where to go next, I can show you around. I know all the good spots." She says, handing here a piece of paper she had written her number down on.
" Okay, I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thank you." the blonde says as she takes the piece of paper from the brunette.
Just then the barista walks back up with the drink in hand. She hands it to Danielle, and then turns to Stefania and says, "Non ho potuto fare a meno di sentire, è andato tutto liscio. È carina." Then she smiled at her, and returned to the back of the cafe. Stefania regularly talked with this barista, her name was Violetta and she had worked there for the last couple of years. They had become good friends over time.
The blonde thanked Stefania, and then walked out of the cafe, the brunette watching her every move. She could have sworn the blonde turned back around to look at her again. She returned to her seat, thoughts glued on the American.
Danielle POV:
She walked out of the cafe smiling as she looked down at the small slip of paper the Italian had given her. Her heart raced as she thought about the encounter that just took place, her fingers still tingled where she brushed fingers with the woman as she grabbed the paper from her. She sipped her drink as she walked around the marketplace, marvelling at all the goods that people were selling. The afternoon flew by as she walked the streets of Sicily, making sure to map out where she went to make sure she didn't get lost. As the sun began to set, she headed back to her hotel to rest her feet from all the walking around she did. She made sure to keep that piece of paper tucked in her pocket until the right time came to pull it out. She laid down on her bed staring at the ceiling, but images of the brunette kept flashing through her head. Her senses recalled the moment frozen in her mind, the cafe smelled of coffee swirled with cinnamon, but she got a whiff of the brunette. She has smelled of a warm vanilla, with a touch of sweetness. By the time she finished daydreaming, the sun had set, and her hotel room had grown dark.
She decided it was time, and she reached to pull the small piece of paper tucked in her pocket. She punched the numbers in her phone, and pressed the small phone icon to dial the call before she second guessed herself. The moment it began to ring, Danielle started to question her decision. Doubting that the brunette would remember their encounter, or anything about her. Her doubts were interrupted when the smooth voice of the brunette answered, " Ciao, sono Stefania" The blonde was taken aback by the Italian, and tried to get a few words out, " Uhm, ciao. This...is erhm Danielle, from the uh.. from the uh cafe earlier today."
" Oh yes Danielle! How did your afternoon go?"
" Oh it was pretty nice, I basically just walked around and explored what was close to my hotel. My feet got tired so I headed back though."
" I see, did you have any plans for the evening?"
" You see, that's why I was calling. I thought I might take you up on your private tour this evening? If you're available of course"
" I'd love to, I am just finishing something up. I would be available in about 30 minutes. I'll text you the address where to meet me. Does that sound good?"
"Sure, sounds good. See you soon!"
"See you soon, Danielle."

RomanceI honestly don't feel like the writers of Station 19 have given this relationship the best storyline. Here is my take on how their relationship could and should be so much better.
