Kakashi eventually left to find Lady Tsunade, leaving Naruto with his thoughts.
Naruto stared outside of the small window beside him with a blank expression on his face. He watched the sun go down, turning the view into a beautiful sunset. Orange fading into pink and violet hues, a sight for sore eyes really. He looked at the children playing just outside the hospital gates. Smiles on their faces, all of them were giggling, having fun, not a care in the world. He looked at two boys in particular. They looked...close...comfortable with each other, you could say they looked like best friends. He envied them. That's right, envy. A word normally associated with green, funny really. When you think of green you would probably think of nature, flowers, trees, grass or life in general.
So why was envy associated with a colour that meant something so beautiful? That answer, Naruto didn't know. He envied those kids with passion, they did not know the meaning of betrayal or hurt.
He thought of Sasuke at that moment, the fights he used to have with him, their adventures together and yes, even that dreadful kiss. Naruto shivered at the memory, he loved the bond that he and Sasuke had shared even though they fought almost every hour. Sadly, Sasuke severed that bond to chase after a senseless ambition he had since his clan got massacred. Naruto frowned at the thought at the same time thinking about what Sakura said.
"I thought you were his friend...I guess not..."
Those words bothered him. He was not Sasuke's friend, he was Sasuke's brother. The bond they shared was not of friends, but brothers. Even though they weren't related, they always thought of each other as brothers, even though they wouldn't say it to each other. Naruto smiled at the thought. He felt like he knew Sasuke better than anyone, they basically grew up the same way except that Sasuke wasn't treated like an outcast. He wasn't despised by the village half of his life. Even if they were to be just friends, what kind of friend would pull a stunt like that?
"What kind of team mate leaves thier squad behind, just to go solo?" Naruto questioned himself, "What kind of friend would leave without saying goodbye?" Naruto said this with rage in his voice. He clenched his fists so hard, his knuckles were starting to turn white.
He was done chasing Sasuke. Maybe if he left him alone he would come to him instead...
The beautiful sunset gradually turned dark and stars started to shine brightly as they should. He looked down at the hospital gates again and saw the parents of the children who were playing there started to take them home. The two boys looked up at the window Naruto was looking down from, they smiled and waved at him at the same time. Naruto flashed his signature smile and waved a hand back at them. At that moment, Naruto smiled not by force but sincerely. The children left and Naruto just sat there staring at the midnight blue sky. He smiled to himself as he let his thoughts carry him away again...
