Chapter 13- Dead World

The sun had baked the cracked ground into forgotten shards over centuries of sunrises. Mariah Carey woke up, her arms flaky and merged to the clay. She slowly awakened, looking up into a white sky.

Her eyelids barely peeled back before connecting to the rest of the skin. It was so dry here, she had considered switching universes once again. But she remained.

The clay was a dull red, bleached by the sun for a long time. The landscape was perfectly flat in every direction. The horizon resembled the polish flag.

As she stood up flakes of the ground crashed to the ground and shattered like clay pots.

Her feet burned as she walked the mysterious world.

Her very body morphed to suit the environment. She looked less like an aquatic mammal and her body required little moisture. Mariah Carey was now cold-blooded, and developed darker markings crossing her scales to redirect the sun's rays.

The star of this planet was large in the sky and glowing red. The sky was completely white as it would be in a snowstorm. She trudged onwards.

Mariah Carey had an organ in her brain that allowed her to detect all kinds of weather, pinpoint its exact location, and predict where it would be in any amount of time with 100% accuracy. She was alerted not to an atmospheric phenomenon but a small pool of water that stuck out like a sore thumb in this long lost world. She walked to it.

It was as it seemed. A small puddle lying in a depression in the flaked, burning ground. It boiled and steamed in the heat. She did not drink first. She slowly cupped her hands and retrieved the water.

Not a single organism lived in it. There were no minerals, either.

Her fish eyes were keen to sense any life living underwater. She noted a small, circular burrow at the bottom of the puddle. Out of curiosity, she ripped apart the sediment and plunged headfirst into the mystery.
