Dave
"Hey buddy, say ahh," I cooed to my baby boy sitting in the high chair. I was feeding him the baby mash and like a nine-month-old, he didn't like it one bit. He was moving his face, and I had to wipe it many times making it a hard task for me.
"Claudia," I yelled for her when I was able to feed him a spoon of it without him spitting. "Can you hurry, please?" I looked at Liam and he was smiling making me feel a little better about my day.
"Okay, buddy another, ahh and we will be finished with your breakfast." This time I made a funny face making him laugh and seeing the opportunity I fed him the last spoon. He didn't spit again this time, and it felt like a victory. Wiping his face, I cleaned his face, removed his bib, and gave him his teether. Picking him up from his high seat I moved around to hand so he didn't get dirty from all the mess we had created on the table.
"Claudia can you come here fast. I'm getting late." I yelled for her again trying to make sure that she heard it through the house. I was getting late really for a meeting.
"I'm coming, there is no need to shout." She came out from our room dressed from head-to-toe in her glamorous attire.
"I wasn't shouting but making sure you heard me. You know I have a meeting to attend with your father, right?" I reminded her.
"And that is important to me why?" I sighed at her words. Somethings never changed.
"Because your father will have my brains for being late when I was supposed to do something you could have really helped me with?" I said to her only have to her look at me with her head tilted and hand or waist like I was an idiot.
"Did I ask you to take Liam and us to the birthday party?" She asked me making me wonder where she was taking this.
"No," I said holding my fussy baby boy.
"Did I disturb you to help us out with getting presents anyway yesterday?" She asked and I was frustrated I looked at the clock on the wall and I knew I was getting late by every second.
"Claudia, get to the point I'm getting late. I love our baby boy and I'm thankful for being such a good mother and for you to take him to our friend's party." I told her while rocking the little guy.
"It's our son's future friend's birthday party first of all and second it takes time to get ready for such things. So, I'm sorry I took time and I wasn't able to help but this was important too." I just stood there for a second staring at her. Breathing out a sigh I just gave up.
"Thank you now please take him so I can get to the meeting," I told handling her Liam. Wearing my coat from I picked my bag from the table in hurry. I gave a kiss to both my baby and wife.
"See you later. Have fun at our son's future friend's birthday party." I couldn't stop the comment from coming out.
"Have a nice day." Her words came more of as a taunt but decided not to say anything. I was already late.
I had hurried down to my car and was able to reach my office being fifteen minutes late. I knew Alan was going to make an issue out of it too. My father-in-law wasn't a forgiving man. Keeping my bag I had rushed to his office to see him not being too happy.
"Why the hell are you late knowing how important today's meeting is. Our clients are already waiting in the conference room after a cup of coffee. Do you know how embarrassed it makes me?" He scolded with as we walked out of his office to move towards the conference room.
"I'm sorry I had to feed Liam because Claudia was busy getting ready for this birthday party and she wasn't really helping." He came to an abrupt halt as I was following him making me halt too in surprise.
