As you slowly came to your senses, the draw of sleep lured you back to its depths. It tempted you, but your throat was too parched, and your stomach demanded food. Though your memory was murky, you slowly recalled what had happened last night, remembering drinking and arguing with Gelgar about a music duo. Your head pounded in your skull when you tried to remember more.
You huffed and shifted a little, though something held you down and prevented you from moving too much. Your breath hitched until you noticed that whatever you slept on was certainly not a mattress unless your mattress had grown legs and entwined them with yours.
Your eyes fluttered open, and you caught a glimpse of a familiar olive-green shirt. Mike. You had slept on top of Mike.
You blinked a few times before gasping and falling still. His chest slowly rose and fell from underneath you, and you mentally fell apart, face growing hot as you tried to remember why he was not only in your room but asleep with you on top of him. Not that you were complaining. Having one of his hands protectively placed on your lower back was a great way to wake up.
You relaxed in his hold, finally remembering that Mike had come into Nanaba's room and carried you to yours. It was sweet of him to stay with you. You weren't typically a clingy drunk, but you were glad he stayed.
A peaceful expression rested on Mike's face. His lips held a slight frown, and all his features looked relaxed. He had really stayed with you the entire night. He could've easily left after you had fallen asleep, but he didn't. You snuggled into him a bit, closing your eyes and deciding to enjoy a moment of peace before you were left on your own for a few days. Though you knew you didn't have to worry about him or any of your friends dying on the expedition they were going to go on, you still worried about them getting injured, especially Erwin, Levi, and Mike.
You gripped the fabric of Mike's shirt, and it was like he knew even in his sleep that you were worried because he brought you closer to him. He provided comfort and made you feel safe, and you wished you could wake up like this with him every day.
Mike stirred beneath you, and you opened your eyes when his arm around you tightened. A deep groan passed through his lips, and tired green irises flickered to you. The immediate confusion in them faded to recognition. His lips stretched into a faint smirk, and he slowly started rubbing his hand up and down your back.
"I shouldn't let you drink with Gelgar again," he told you.
Mike's voice was deeper and raspier from sleep, making your breath hitch and a shiver run up your spine. Your brain replayed his words in the exact tone he said them in like a broken record. It should've been considered a crime for someone's voice to reach such a low octave, yet at the same time, you wanted to hear him talk more. But you didn't expect the next thing he said to be your name. It was low and rumbled in the back of his throat, and you froze on top of him, feeling as though your breath had left you. Mike realized how out of it you were and brought a hand to your chin, tilting it so that you looked into his eyes. Maybe it was your muddled brain, but his eyes looked a mixture of amused and seductive.
"You're zoning out," Mike rasped.
Fuck me...
"You have a really nice voice."
The words slipped from your mouth without much thought, and you wanted to slap yourself the moment you said them. Your eyes clamped shut, and you turned your head out of Mike's hold, hiding your face in his shoulder out of embarrassment. And by doing so, you missed the way his cheeks flushed pink. It was your words that repeated in his head this time. The hand he had held your chin with fell to your back when he felt you shifting around. He wanted you to stay with him, especially after your admission.
