As you slowly came to your senses, the draw of sleep tried to pull you back to it. It was tempting to listen to, but your throat was parched and your stomach rumbled.
Your eyes squeezed shut a bit tighter as you slowly recalled what happened last night that led to you feeling so dehydrated. You groaned when you remembered drinking with Gelgar. Some of your memories from last night were murky, but you vividly remembered arguing with Gelgar about a music duo at some point. You didn't remember what led to that argument, and your head hurt when you tried to think about it.
You huffed and shifted where you lay, but you couldn't move too much because something held you down by your lower back. Your breath hitched in confusion until you noticed that whatever you slept on was certainly not a mattress unless your mattress grew legs and entwined them with yours.
Your eyes fluttered open, and you caught a glimpse of a familiar olive-green shirt. Mike. You slept on top of Mike.
You blinked a few times at the thought before gasping and falling still. His chest slowly rose and fell from where you lay on it, and you mentally fell apart, face growing hot as you tried to remember why he was not only in your room but asleep with you on top of him—not that you were complaining. Having one of his hands protectively placed on your lower back was a great way to wake up.
You smiled a little and relaxed before thinking a bit harder about the events that took place last night. When you finally remembered that Mike came into Nanaba's room and carried you to yours, where you begged him to spend the night with you, you felt a rush of embarrassment. You weren't typically a clingy drunk, so you had no idea what last night was about with you asking for Mike to stay with you. Still, you were grateful he did.
Tilting your head, you tiredly looked up at Mike. A peaceful expression rested on his sleeping face. His lips held a slight frown, and all his features looked relaxed. Your eyes softened at the sight and also when you realized he stayed with you the entire night. He could've easily waited until you fell asleep and then slipped out of your bed and left, but he didn't. You tilted your head and snuggled into Mike a bit, closing your eyes and deciding to enjoy a moment of peace before you were left on your own for a few days.
Living on your own was never an issue for you. It wasn't like you didn't have your own apartment back in your world. However, back in your world, you still saw people and communicated with friends and family on a daily basis. Once the Scouts left, it would just be you in the castle, and no one would be around for kilometers. It would be a very lonely few days, but you would find something to do to prevent boredom.
You placed one of your hands beside your face on Mike's chest and closed your eyes. Though you knew you didn't have to worry about him or any of your friends dying on the expedition they were going to go on, you still worried about them getting injured, especially Erwin, Levi, and Mike. You felt strongly for the three of them, and though you wished you hadn't, there was nothing you could do about your feelings. You just didn't want any of them to get hurt. You gripped the fabric of Mike's shirt, and it was like he knew even in his sleep that you were worried because he brought you closer to him. Mike provided comfort and made you feel safe, and you wished you could wake up like this with him every day. Adding Erwin and Levi would've been a bonus.
Mike stirred beneath you, and you opened your eyes when the arm he had wrapped around you tightened. A deep groan passed through his lips as he slowly opened his eyes. Tired green irises flickered to you, and you noticed when the immediate confusion in them faded to recognition. Mike's lips stretched into a faint smirk, and he slowly started rubbing his hand up and down your back.
