Chapter Three

*Richard's POV*

If I'm being honest, I don't know why I kissed her. I just did, but I don't regret it. Immediately after doing it, I prepared to get screamed at. What I wasn't ready for was her to kiss me back. Not only that, but for HER to kiss me after pulling away. I don't want this to end. Something about her is different for the hundreds of other girls I have been with. Not to be cliche, but when I kissed her, I felt fireworks explode around me. Sadly, I need oxygen, so I am forced to end this experience.

"Woah," Nina says while trying to catch her breathe.
"Yeah, woah..." I am at a lost for words. I mean, does anyone know what to say after two steamy makeout sessions with their enemy?
"What happens know?" she asks.
"I don't know, what do you want to happen?"
"I want to continue to feel this, whatever it is. It's a tragedy it happens with you," Nina jokes. We both let out a laugh.
"The feeling is mutal," I respond. "No one can ever know about this."
"Yeah, we need to keep whatever this is hidden."
"We need to act like we hate each other in public still, and in private, well..."
"How about we just do whatever feels right in the moment, kind of like friends with benefits?" Nina suggests.
"Friends with benefits? That works for me." I smirk. Nina slaps my arm and giggles.
"Of course it does. Anyways we should probably head back before people notice," she tells me. So, we do just that, separately.

*Nina's POV*

I return to my table where I get interrogated by my parents.
"Where were you Nina?"
"I was just getting some fresh air." I wasn't completely lying, I mean, that's why I left in the first place. However, I'm pretty sure I was getting even less oxygen with my lips connected to his. Just the thought of the moment of the balcony makes my entire body ignite.
"You need to be here Nina," my father tells me. "You are going to be Queen one day."
"I know, father" I groan in response. They always feel the need to remind me that, like it hasn't been drilled into my head since I was able to understand the words they say.

I search the room trying to find Richard. As expected, I find him talking to this blonde. I'll admit, the sight makes me physically sick. However, I can't be mad. We have to act normal, also, we aren't dating.

*Richard's POV*

When I take my seat next to my parents, they tell me that there's someone important I need to meet. I wait for another old guy to walk over, but he never comes. A petite blonde walks over in a sleek red dress.
"Richard, this is Maya Heart. You'll be seeing a lot of her," my father tells me. Something about the tone of his voice leads me to think there is something he's not telling me, but I ignore it.
"Hello Maya, it's a pleasure to meet you," I say with a smile.
"Likewise, Richard. Anyways, what's it like being a future king?" she asks.
"Are you not royal?" I say confused, since I thought everyone here is.
"No, I just come from a wealthy family. I just got invited here by your father just to meet you." Okay, there is definitely something my dad didn't tell me. He has something planned.

I continue to make small talk with Maya. Turns out, she isn't that bad. I could actually see us being friends. Finally, at 12am, we are able to head home. I am exhausted. Social gatherings like that suck all of the life out of me, but no one really knows that, other than my bestfriend Caleb. The second we make it back to where we are staying, I take off my uncomfortable suit and go to sleep. Oddly, I find myself dreaming of a certain brown-eyed brunette.
