Star-Crossed Lovers (Rini AU)

Chapter Two

*Richard's POV*

"Well if it isn't the gorgeous Nina Roberts," I admire. Even though we're enemies, I can't deny her beauty. Also, I know it annoys her, so that's a plus.
"Ugh! What do you want Richard?" She questioned me.
"You, in my bed," I smirk.
"Richard Bowen, you disgust me."
"Now sweetheart, I think we both know that isn't true. Secretly, you want me, just like every other girl in this room."
"Stop lying to yourself Bowen," Nina tells me as she turns and walks away, leaving me with a satisfied smirk on my face. My goal was to get under her skin, and it looks like I have succeeded.

I go join my parents at our table, as the ball has officially started. The sound of different conversations fill the room. As I take my seat, I am immediately crowded by women.

*Nina's POV*

"What is so special about Richard Bowen?" I ask EJ.
"I don't know, I mean, he is hot."
"I mean sure, but he's a complete asshole."
"Some girls like that, it's rare someone is so real in our circle," EJ explains.
"I guess. It just doesn't make sense to me. He is the total opposite of someone I would want to be with."
"Everyone has their own preferences." We stand there in silence for a moment watching the situation unfold. Then, EJ teases, "Hey, why do care so much about people liking Richard."
"I'm not," I defend, "I despise him. Always have and always will."

I decide to walk away from the crowd for some peace and quiet. I find myself on an empty balcony looking over the garden.
"Hey," a male voice calls, startling me. I turn around a see my curly-haired enemy in the doorway.
"What do you want, Richard?" I ask, turning back to view the scenery.
"Nothing," he replies. "I saw you head this way, and I was just curious on what you were doing."
"The noise of hundreds of conversations was getting to be a little much, that's all," I explain.
"Yeah, I totally get that. As fun as it is, sometimes the endless attention from girls can be annoying," he tells me. "But you know, I understand why. I mean, look at me."
I turn to him and scoff, "Of course. You ruin a nice moment by being your cocky self."
"What do you mean?" he questions.
"You know exactly what I mean. You think the entire world revolves around you, but news flash, it doesn't Richard," I yell.
"Woah... um okay," he whispers. He goes to leave, but he quickly turns around and walks over to me. "What did I ever do to make you hate me so much?"
"Do I really have to spell it out for you?" I yell. "You are one of the most selfish, arrogant, cocky, sarcastic, and rude people I have ever met!"
"You don't even know me Nina!" he yells. "You just judge people off first glance. Haven't you ever heard the phrase, don't judge a book by its cover?"
"Of course I have," I counter. For once, I don't know what else to say. Have I actually been unfair to him? No, of course not. He is Richard Bowen.

We look into each other's eyes, trying to find the words to say next. Suddenly, the atmosphere around us changes. The  tension is still high, but not like before. Just as I go to say something, I feel a pair of lips against mine. My first instinct is to pull away, however, for some odd reason, I am enjoying this. I find myself kissing him back. For the first time ever, a fire ignites in the pit of my stomach. It is like a cloud of fog has incased my brain.

After about 3 minutes, we finally break apart, due to lack of air. He rests his forehead against mine, both of us at a loss for words. I look into his eyes, trying to figure out what to say. Suddenly, all I want to do is kiss him again, so against my better judgment, I find myself doing exactly that.

Soooo... that happened :) I know this is happening fast, but I needed to get their rollercoaster of a relationship started.
