6 hours later

"Mister Dempsey?" The doctor said while walking in in Ellen's room

"Yes sir, how did it go?" Patrick asked while he and Kate stood up

"We could repair the nerve. It was damaged because of her spine that shifted when she fell. She'll recover for 80%." the doctor said

Patrick and Kate were scared. 80%?! In what parts will she not be able to recover?

"What do you mean with 80%?" Kate asked because Patrick wanted to start crying.

"Well, she'll need a wheelchair in the beginning to make sure she won't overdo the nerve. After a month we'll be able to put off her back brace and we'll take scans to see if she'll need the brace or not. She needs PT to try to keep her legs and back as stable as possible but she'll have a lot of back pain in the beginning but even after 5 years she'll feel pain, we just don't know how bad it will be. She needs to be careful with carrying heavy stuff and she won't be able to carry your youngest daughter, the girl is too big and her bag can't carry that weight. But she isn't paralyzed and that's the most important." The doctor explained "Any more questions?"

"I don't think so.." Kate said with tears in her eyes

"She's alive.. that's all that matters" Patrick said

Kate and Patrick started hugging, a nurse wheeled Ellen into the room. Kate called the kids to tell them everything went fine. The kids wouldn't visit today and Patrick will spend the night at the hospital.

2 hours later

Kate was taking a nap and Patrick was staring at Ellen. In his head he was rehearsing how he would tell the news to Ellen. At that moment she started to wake up. So Patrick woke Kate up.

"Hey you're awake" Patrick said

"How are you feeling Ellen?" Kate asked

"Hi.. Fine" She said, she was super tired

After 5 minutes Elles fell back asleep and Kate decided to go home because she had to go to set tomorrow.

Later that night Ellen woke up, Patrick was staring at her. Her face made clear she was in pain so Derek called for a nurse

"I think she's in a lot of pain" he said while the nurse walked in.

"Miss, can you tell me on a scale from 1-10 how bad it is?"

"an 8 maybe a 9" Ellen said while grabbing Patricks hand

"I'll give you some morphine, try not to move your back" the nurse said.

"Thanks" Patrick said while petting Ellen's face to try to keep her calm

The nurse gave Ellen some morphine so she could have a good night. Patrick decided to take a nap, she wouldn't wake up in the first few hours. But first he texted his oldest daughter Katie who was already asleep.. although that's what he thought

Patrick: Mom woke up twice, she'll be fine. Sweetdreams x

Katie: I'm so happy! Love you! x

Patrick: Try to get some sleep, you can come over tomorrow afternoon x
