You were finally ready and knowing everybody was already full swing into the party, you snuck down the stairs and went straight to the bar, Sitting down and looking out across the party you hoped he would turn up.

After you had already lost track of how long you'd been waiting for him, Natasha walked over and started making herself a drink, "You okay? I didn't even see you come in,"

You turned to face her, plastering on a smile, "Just trying to find someone,"

Her eyes trailed across your sad smile before pouring some shots and giving you them. That was when the real smile took over, without saying a word you downed all four.

Natasha's jaw dropped, "Some of them were for me, dumbass." She said smiling, you shrugged it off before going back to watch duty.

Once Natasha finished making her cocktail she walked around the bar and planted a hand on your shoulder, "Just enjoy yourself babe."

As she walked away to talk to some more guests you knew she was right, he probably wouldn't turn up and you should just forget about it.

But, of course, just then as you were getting up you saw him. He sauntered down the stairs, wearing a crisp white dress shirt - sleeves rolled up to his elbows with the collar laying loose around his neck - and black jeans. You'd never noticed how nicely the soldier could clean up.

Your heart hammered in your chest as you stepped over to him, you were worried the words you so desperately needed to say wouldn't come out.

"Bucky! We need to talk." That part was easy.

He looked you in the eye as you were standing in front of him, they were empty, it felt as though he was looking straight through you.

"You did plenty of talking last night." He replied, he spoke softly but the words hit you like daggers.

He walked straight past you, his cold metal shoulder hitting yours as he went. You stood, shocked, for a few moments, your breath caught in the back of your throat before you turned around. He was standing at the bar, reaching over to grab himself a drink, you walked over to him, more determination in your strides than before.

As you stood in front of him he rolled his eyes and sighed, "Bucky, please I'm sor-"

"Hey, you don't like me, I don't like you, end of, it was a fling, can you just let me enjoy this party y/n?" He interrupted.

You sighed as he walked past you, his shoulder brushed past yours again and with that, the feelings of rage, heartache and misery all mixed into one. You barely waited until he had fully walked away before slamming your fists into the counter; Flames erupting from your bare arms.

This was the most fire you had been able to create before and it wasn't a surprise that anger was a good emotion for success with your ability, everybody gasped as they watched you but you couldn't focus on them right now, you stormed out onto the balcony, the door handle becoming slightly misshapen as you touched it. You stepped out and held onto the cold metal railing, looking out at the New York landscape trying to calm yourself.

You heard the door open and the anger came bubbling right back to the surface, "Y/n what was that?" Steve yelled jogging over to you.

"Go away Rogers," You yelled, he continued jogging toward you and without thinking you turned around and pointed at him, your hand engulfed in flames once again, "Steve, I swear to god."

His hands shot up as he stepped back, "Oh my god, okay!" It was obvious he was scared as he opened the door and left but the anger and and sadness wouldn't let guilt occupy your mind too.

Looking out at New York, all you could focus on were the places you two went together, the parks he would take you to so often, the abandoned building a few blocks away that you had to hide out in together for far too long.

Hearing the door open behind you your grip on the railing tightened, "Rogers.." You turned to face him as your hand started to burn up, but it was a different super soldier. He was angry.

You tried to apologize but he cut you off, pointing to you as he spoke. "No, you don't get to speak to me right now. You don't get to be angry. You don't get to set the bar on fire. And you sure as hell don't get to say you're "doing what's best for the team" and then threaten my best friend. All because I gave you the exact same treatment as you gave me." He had walked over to you and poked his finger to your chest as he spoke these last words, "When you crush someone's heart like you did last night y/n... You're not allowed to come crawling back."

Only one tear fell down your cheek as he turned away.

When he reached for the doors you finally found your words again, slowly walking up to him, "I was wrong!" You shouted, he turned anger still written in the deep crease between his brows. "I- I thought that I was doing it because of the team." More tears crashed down your face, "But, I was only doing it cause I was scared." You looked at your feet as he started to walk back to you.

"I thought about everything, everyone's reactions and the missions and stuff... But I forgot to think about us." You looked him in the eye, the rage had turned to a slight confusion, you held his hand carefully, "Bucky, I thought in that situation I'd be able to ignore my feelings and go for the bad guy, but I know now that with anybody on the team, I'd stay, because love is so much more important than the cause." You shocked yourself being able to say the l-word so easily,

"The reason we have a team is so that we can work together, your answer was perfect but because of the fear I had about getting hurt, I couldn't convince myself it was." He traced small circles on your hand with his thumb as he squeezed it tight, still not saying anything but his eyes looked softer.

"Bucky Barnes, I love you and I don't think I could ever change that." Yhe tears had slowed down but you were still terrified of what he might say back.

He hesitated, and looked away, you felt your heart break thinking he didn't feel the same way. But, he looked back to you, now smiling,
"Y/n l/n I love you more than you'll ever know, and I won't ever put a mission above you."

You moved your hands to the nape of his neck and pulled him into a kiss, he held your face in his hands as he kissed you back, the passion and love from that very first night was back and even though you knew people inside would be staring you never wanted to let go.

The way he kept his hands on your face reminded you that this was different to any man you had been with before, with Bucky you knew he loved you for more than your body, and the fact that he knew about your past, something you never thought anyone would accept, made it that much more loving.

Eventually you pulled away and looked him in the eye, before your eyes focused on the people behind him - you should have worried a little - almost all the guests were watching, Steve and Sam mostly in utter shock but Tony, Pepper and Natasha had the biggest smiles you'd ever seen.

You looked back to the man you love with gritted teeth, "I don't want to worry you but we have an audience," You said softly as your hands slid down to his chest, still holding your face in his hands he hung his head forward, chuckling, now with a full view of said audience you smiled awkwardly and patted the back of his head.

He looked back up to you and gave you a peck on the cheek before turning to face the doors back inside he put out his arm for you to link with yours and you both walked in.
