*Bucky's POV*

We walked down the dark New York street, her eyes glinted in the street lights as she laughed. We had decided on a pizza place not too far from the compound, and I loved the way she looked in the moonlight.

I had managed to convince her we should sit in since it's so cold and conversation drifted easily as we dug into our pizza. It felt like we were the only ones on the planet. I had always thought of y/n as more than a friend but today... was different. I could tell the things she told me about her brother were not something she treated lightly, and knowing she trusted me enough with that information only made me like her that much more.

"Why do you like this place, the pizzas cold already." I asked - forgetting who I was talking to.

She smirked and lifted the plate placing her hand underneath it, after a moment of intense staring, steam started rising from the plate and the pizza.

"Why thank you y/n, you're like a little portable oven." I joked, she set the plate back down and wiped her hands on her jeans.

"Why else would you guys keep me around." She quipped rubbing her hands together, I could tell it had hurt her but, of course, she'd never admit it.

I lifted my metal arm and took off my glove before holding it out over the table, she cocked her head and I rolled my eyes before taking her hand gently and placing it in mine, it was quite reminiscent of a cartoon the way steam came out from under her hand, and after she took it away she thanked me.

Once we were done, we walked back to the compound, I put my arm around her shoulder as she held my metal one, inspecting it, she was interested in how it worked and I didn't mind. She was one of the only people that I actually felt comfortable enough with to let really look at it, other than Steve of course.

She ran her finger down from my wrist to the tip of my finger, "So if something hit it, the only impact you'd feel would be in your shoulder?" She asked, I nodded, "So, what you're telling me is all those times I tapped you on your arm you weren't actually ignoring me, you just couldn't feel it?"

I failed to bite back a laugh and turned to look at her, "You've done that?"

"Well yeah! How was I supposed to know?" She replied dropping my hand and looking forward before we both erupted into laughter.

When we got back to the tower it was late, we walked up to our rooms and stood in the hallway together for a moment.

"Thank you for everything today Buck," She said, patting my arm before turning to open her door.

I didn't know what to do, I was exhausted and so was she but I didn't want this day to end. Everything felt like it was going in slow motion as she went for the doorknob, I couldn't even stop myself from grabbing her arm to turn her back around. She stood there, shocked for a moment before I took her face in my hands, squeezing my eyes shut tight as my lips landed on hers, it went by so fast I didn't even know what was going on but it felt right.

She hesitated for a moment and I wanted the world to swallow me right there, I was thinking she didn't want this, that was until I felt her hands grab my waist, pulling me closer.

She was perfect.

The way I could feel her intense body heat as we stood inches from each other, and the way that her hands trailed up my chest the and her arms wrapped around my neck, the way I could feel her smiling as my hair tickled her face and the way our lips moved together perfectly synchronized.

Y/n was perfect.

My heart hammered at my ribcage as we stood in the hallway, and it felt as though for as long as I was in her arms nothing could go wrong.

"Wow," A voice echoed through the hallway. Stark. She brought her hands back to my chest and pushed me away, my hands fell to her shoulders as we both looked toward the billionaire.

"I must say guys, I honestly did not expect that," He said walking toward us, I looked back at y/n before hanging my head back, letting out an exasperated sigh.

"I have no idea what you could be talking about," She said, taking my arms away from her shoulders. "we were just talking."

Gaslighting is never okay but in this instance it felt appropriate.

"Talking? I gotta say freezer-burn thats the worst cover-up I've ever heard," He stopped in front of us, "don't worry, if you don't tell Pepper I'm drinking coffee this late," He held up the cup he was holding before continuing, "then I won't tell anyone you guys are suckin' face." He walked in between us and down the hallway.

"Screw you Tony!" She yelled at him smiling, I ran my hand through my hair looking at her as she turned back to me, "Well, I can't say I expected that either." She looked at her feet the soft smile staying on her face.

"I'm sorr-" she cut me off.

"Doesn't mean I didn't like it." She gripped my jaw and kissed my cheek before turning to go to bed.

I stood in the hallway for a while longer, my head drowned in disbelief that not only was I dumb enough to kiss her but that she doesn't hate me for it.
