I continued down the path way until I found Amberheart, a cream colored building with coffee colored shutters and glass doors with shiny gold handles that glinted in the sunlight. I pulled open the doors and walked inside onto the beautiful hardwood floor and up the steps, letting the air conditioning cool me off. I trudged down the hallway with my bags in tow looking at the room numbers, I was trying not to be nosy but my curiosity and I peeked into some of the doors that were left open and saw roommates talking excitedly and checking up and others hugging or setting up their rooms. I soon found my room pretty easily, surprisingly I wasn’t wandering around with no idea where I was going and what I was doing looking like the stupid new girl. I didn’t want to make it obvious if I could to everyone on our floor that I was new because just about everyone here knew each other now for at least a year or two ago, but I guess then it would be pretty obvious then either way. I walked in my room pulling my two giant bright purple suitcases behind me and saw two girls with blonde hair sitting on the floor laughing and talking while unpacking their suitcases, who I figured where Kai and Skylar. I didn’t really know what to do so I just stood there for a minute not wanting to interrupt and trying to calm my stomach which kept doing uncomfortable summer saults. The smell of freshly washed clothes in the air calmed my nerves reminding me of home.  Then one of them turned around and looked at me and ran up to me and hugged me. I’m not much of hugging person but I went with it and gently wrapped my arms around her.

“Look Kai it’s our new roomie! We’re so happy to finally meet you, we’ve emailed and talked on Skype and all but it’s not the same.   We’re so happy have us rooming with us this year”, Skylar said smiling while still hugging me. When she let me go I noticed she greenish grey eyes that I had never noticed before and she had gotten some light brown highlights in her blond fishtailed braid. “Hey Ava,” Kai waved from the floor. She had bleach blond hair with bangs that fell over her one eye when she looked back down at her suitcase again sorting things into numerous piles and when she looked up again I noticed she had dark blue eyes that shown with happiness.

They both smiled at me but I wasn’t sure what to say even though I love being here I was still really nervous I didn’t want to do anything wrong or say the wrong things. So I stayed pretty quiet and walked around examining our room. We got a giant suite so we each got our own separate closet, bedroom and watercloset, the British way of saying bathroom. I couldn’t wait to decorate my room it was so amazing how pretty just my room was even when it was plain, I couldn’t even imagine what the rest of the school looked like. Yeah I had taken a tour but I didn’t get to see inside the classrooms or many of the other buildings. And already it was all beautiful even the concrete on the sidewalks was pretty. No wait that maybe an exaggeration there, but still.  After I had put up all my stuff in my room and decorated it how I wanted it, with my patch quilt with many different designs which I got at Pottery Barn Teen and my numerous pillows. I decorated my walls with some of my artwork of horses, and numerous other pictures that I had gotten framed recently and of course the goofy pictures with my friends and family. I’d definitely have to print out the ones of Shane with food all over himself and the other silly ones I had taken since I got here; I hoped to continue to add in more pictures of my new friends here. Then I organized the rest of my room to my liking, putting my sketchpad and colored pencils on my desk, throwing some books and magazines on my bedside table and putting the rest on the bookshelf.

I walked out in the living room where Skylar and Kai were sitting on Lazyboys with the TV turned on but not really watching it. They were gossiping and talking about stuff that happened over the summer and about some people who went here I assumed because I had never heard the names before. I finally decided to go sit with them instead of awkwardly standing in my doorway like a weirdo.

“Oh hey, we were just talking about Skylar’s new boyfriend, Mason, they just got together right before school let out for summer break last year,” Kai said when I sat down next to her.

Skylar blushed a little embarrassed, “he’s so sweet and well of course handsome! I couldn’t ask for a better boyfriend than him.” I won’t admit to either of them but I was kind of jealous I had wanted a boyfriend now for a while and secretly I was hoping I would find the perfect British one here.

We soon left our room and walked across campus to get dinner at the massive cafeteria.

“Hey sis”, someone behind me said putting their arm around Kai.

She turned to see who it was, “Shaney!”, she said turning around to hug him smiling.

I looked at Shane and Kai they seriously looked nothing a like her with long blonde hair and blue eyes and him with  jet black hair and green. If he hadn’t told me they were siblings earlier on the plane I never would have guessed.

“I missed you! How was Noah’s?”

“Oh you know same old same old. We went to this really cool restaurant though, called the The Shake Shack. Their food is to die for and it’s kind of cool because it’s outdoors and since it was chiller on the day that we were there instead of closing down during the fall and winter they have these giant heaters that people sit under. . They basically just serve burgers, hot dogs, and fries and milkshakes but it was the best burger I have ever eaten in my life. And then they have these milkshakes that are like that death by chocolate cake some restaurants have and I got a major sugar high and drove him nuts for a little while until I crashed on the ride home. Oh, and we went to Dylan’s again and I got a 5 pound Twix bar, a bunch of king size Reeses peanut butter cups and then some chocolate covered pretzels. And I have a surprise for you, but I didn’t bring it with me because I wasn’t sure if I’d see you tonight or not.”

“Oooo I’m so excited now! I guess I’ll have to randomly visit your room then,” she said jumping up and down.

“Alright. I hope you like it.”

“I’m sure I will. So have you met our new roomie yet?” She said to him.

He glanced over at me smiling “Hey stranger, find your way around this crazy place yet?”

“I guess you have then,” she said.

I smiled at them both, “Yes I have met your brother we actually met on the plane earlier today, fun times.”

She looked confused but Shane told her not to worry about it and just winked at me over her head. I looked around us as we continued to walk and looked around marveling at the architecture of the old buildings I always have found the structure of them fascinating especially for photography purposes, something that has interested me but I’m not very good at it. I continued to walk with my new friends still but tuned them out and listened to the sounds of the birds chirping that seemed to calm me down a little. I was still a little jittery even though I was starting to settle in and had made some new friends. The birds reminded me of home and I decided to call my parents later on tonight to check in with them.

We finally got to the dining hall, a massive room with some smaller tables that seated two people were pushed up against the wall and near the windows. Various other circular and rectangular tables that could fit numerous people were arranged in neat lines throughout the cafeteria. Since the chairs weren’t attached to the tables it looked like people sometimes crammed as many people as possible at a table just so they could sit with their friends. . They had a major selection of foods from different cultures; American food, well what we consider it to be anyways, Mexican, Japanese, Thai, India, Chinese and so many more. All the meals came in different size options and with numerous sides to go along with them. And that was just the entrees and sides there was a whole area just for dessert; cookies, cakes, ice cream, it seemed like every dessert you could think of they had. Even though the desserts looked so tempting I decided to grab a tray and get in line for a grilled cheese with chicken noodle soup and Skylar decided to join me. As we were waiting in line I saw this tall muscular guy, with slightly tanned skin and long black hair that swooped to the right  and gorgeous piercing blue green eyes, he should be  on the beach not in a boarding school cafeteria.  When he looked up from getting a bag of chip I quickly looked down blushin not wanting him to know I was staring at him.

My heart pounded loudly in my ears and I was pretty sure my face was as red a tomato; I could feel the heat rising from the tips of my toes to the top of my head. I needed to pull myself together this was seriously embarrassing.

“Who’s that?” I asked as he walked towards the checkout far enough away from us that he won’t hear me. “That’s Cody. Why?” she looked at me with a curious knowing look.
