HIGH SCHOOL PARTIES SUCK

She didn't turn up for Mr. Healy's detention, to be honest she had mostly forgotten about it after she began getting pumped to perform at Eddie's party.

Nero and Solis walked to Ash's house, it was closest to where Eddie lived, so they could all practice a few songs before heading over there tonight.

The two siblings walked in silence, as they usually had— neither of them were talkers. Nero bounced a rubber ball against the concrete as he walked a few paces behind Solis. The rhythm was drilled into her brain as she heard the thumping over and over and over.

"You coming tonight?" Solis glanced over her shoulder at her brother, who's head was down and stare was intently held with the side walk.

Nero looked up at her for a moment, before putting his head back down. "To—-uh, to the party?" He said rhetorically. "No."

Solis sighed knowingly, he was not a very outgoing person, nor did he care for making friends. He was content with being alone, he didn't care much for Solis always dragging him around with her friends, he enjoyed the silence— the absence of annoying people who were just destined to leave like they always did.

The two had dealt with a lot of heartbreak in their sad lives. First, their mom died when they were in kindergarten from pancreatic cancer, forcing them to grow up without that nurturing, womanly figure. And then, their dad has a failing liver from how much he drinks all the time.

He wasn't an angry drunk, or aggressive, like most people preconceive when they think of alcoholics. He, rather, was distant and impulsive and— grieving. Their father could never get over the loss of their mother, and it's been over a decade.

Nero told Solis he was going to die soon, he heard the home nurse say something about it. And Solis, as she always had, acted like her emotions weren't there... a machine without a soul. At this point, she expected everyone to just leave, or die, eventually, so why get close to anyone?

She was a pessimist through and through.

"You think you could give me a ride home then?" Solis questions as they arrive at Ash's house. "Since you're not coming."

Nero just nodded, as the two headed up the front porch steps to see the girls who had driven there— not walked.

"About time!" Mads exclaims sarcastically. "You took forever."

Solis gave a grimace, "easy for you to say when you got a ride here," she mumbled under her breath, but it went unnoticed by anyone but herself.

"Okay, what do we got," Ash asked excitedly, probably trying to see what the options were so she could impress Eddie.

The girl pulled out her phone, scrolling though a playlist she made when she was sitting on the bleachers last period. "I have some Ramones songs," she announced, holding out the cellphone.

Ash shook her head in shock, "The Ramones?" She exasperated. "They only use like three cords."

Solis was growing tired of the judgement, and just threw herself onto the couch. "So? I can learn one more," she joked, snickering at the desperate girl.

The two other girls thought it was funny, giggling along with her, but Ash didn't seem to feel the same way. "We're not going to make a fool of ourselves," she said sternly, pulling up her own playlist on a laptop.
