Cal Bauer was always different. He never really fit in with the other kids but he tried to act as normal as he could, especially when he was with his little sister. She, unfortunately, was the opposite of her big brother and grew up sick and weak and, even with Mr Yeager's medical help, she only ever got better in Spring before getting worse in Winter.
Cal's family was always different. His father was strong, strict yet caring towards his family. His mother is a strong woman who works at home, sewing things for her clients. His sister was sweet and wouldn't harm a fly due to her illness, which she has had since she was a year old and one day might be the end of her.
Cal was like his father and his mother. He was strong and overprotective of those he cared about. He never thought he would end up becoming so protective of his friends so whenever they got hurt, he was there to help. He didn't look like the kind of boy who was willing to get beat up for his friends, but he was.
He and his friends were always together and they knew they weren't gonna split up anytime soon.
Cal and Eren had been friends years before the Yeagers adopted Mikasa Ackerman since their fathers were quite close friends and they introduced the two boys when they were younger. Eren admired how strong Cal ad Mikasa was and tried to act strong as well, which always put a smile on their faces.
The trio met Armin Arlet when he was being beaten up by a couple of older kids. Luckily, Mikasa and Cal used their combined strength to fight them off and get them away from Armin. Even though they continued to bully him because of his dream to leave the walls, they did their best to protect them.
The four kids became friends even after the fall of Shiganshina.
Before Cal began socializing with the other kids, he spent most of his time caring for his sister, helping his mother and training himself to get stronger. He wanted to be like his dad, a strong man with a purpose. He also wanted to join the Survey Corps, even though his mother was hesitant about it because she didn't wanna have to worry every day that one day he wouldn't come home and she would get the news that he was gone.
Eren also had the ambition to become apart of Survey corps and become a Scout. Unfortunately, though, his parents were strict and didn't want him going out there. Especially his mother. Cal tried to encourage him and told him multiple times his favourite quote.
"It's only impossible until it's done."
And Eren believed him until the very end. Mikasa stayed by his side to protect them both and when Armin joined, she protected him as well.
The four kids knew they would stay by each other's side till the very end and they would not give up on their dreams.
