"Heads up! The main unit of the Scout Regiment is back!" A soldier announced as the gates opened and the Scouting Legion rode through on their horses. People had gathered in the square, as well as the trainees and soldiers, to see the Scouts come back from their mission.
"That's right, commander Erwin," Someone from the crowds shouted as Cal stood next to Eren with his arms crossed over his chest, "Did you give those ugly bastards a thrashing!"
Cal had a small smile on his face as he watched his fellow graduates admire the scouts as they rode through the gates. The tall boy's mind wandered back to when they were kids and they would watch the scouts come back through the gates before they would split off and go home.
He remembered when Eren would always talk about joining the Scouting Legion, and how nobody could change his mind. He missed those times. The times when they could be kids. But, they were older now so they needed to focus on their training.
"Hey, look, it's captain Levi!" Someone yelled over the crowd as everyone's gaze fell on the stoic ravenette, who from a closer look - looked quite small compared to his comrades, "They say he's like an entire brigade of troops by himself!"
"Tsk, spare me please..." The man grumbled as he side-eyed the crowd. His gaze momentarily met Cal's and the brunette could see almost a slight hint of - recognition? The ravenette furrowed his brows at the young cadet as if he was trying to look into his soul. Cal's smile faded slightly until his thoughts were interrupted by Eren's voice.
"Feel how excited everybody is?" He grinned as they watched the Scouts go past, "It's like the crowd just has a different energy now."
"Everyone is cheered up, now" A red-head girl behind her best friends spoke as they all turned to her. "There haven't been any problems for five years."
Cal smiled slightly as he turned around and looked at all around him, civilians and soldiers. He could see that everyone was happy and cheerful to see the Survey Corps members returning and Cal wondered what it would be like to get that kind of applauding.
