The Hughes wonder what America is for them,
When the world tells them to enjoy it.
But they know,
From the beginning,
It was never made for them.Messages of freedom and equality
Thrown into their faces
And shoved down their throats,
Spewing words of what America is
When America never was for them.The Hughes call out the hypocrisy
Of being told that America
Helps them up by their bootstraps,
When America hides the boots
And shuts the door in their faces.
