Chapter 6-Hard day..
It was Monday morning, I was just in the high school classroom doing homework as the teacher blah's on with class, I yawn as I wait for the bell to ring.
"Asher McKenzie?" Someone asks and I turn my head towards the door, "Yes?" I ask, tilting my head in confusion. "Come with me please." They day and I frown but nod, leaving my stuff and going with them. "What's going on?"
"We need your help with Melissa." They say and I nod as I get anxious for Melissa. I follow them to what they call the 'safe room', She was screaming and crying and I frown. "Can I go in?" I ask and they hesitate, as the room is a safety procedure.
"I'm her brother, please." I ask again and one of them says sure. I practically run into the room and pull Melissa into me. "Sissy. Hey, It's Ash. Bubba. I'm here." I say softly to her and she stops screaming but keeps crying, I frown and look at them.
"What happened?" I ask, kinda mad but of course they can't always control it. "I'm not sure exactly what it was. There was kids throwing things, kids sharpening a pencil, they had the normal lights on not dimmed, And she seemed upset just coming in today." They day and I nod.
"I think she's having a sensory overloaded meltdown." I say, rubbing her hair and humming to her softly. She cries and holds onto me, her eyes closed and her hands on her ears. I frown sadly at her and just hold her close to me.
"Where's her device?" I ask as I rock her, "It's with the teacher. It was a distraction." They day and I glare at them, "Ex-fucking-cuse me?" I say, pissed off at them. "There was too much of using it." One says and I rub her hair and get up.
"Her device is a NECESSITY. Not everyone knows SIGN LANGUAGE. That is her SPEAKING DEVICE. You do NOT take that necessity from her. And excuse me but the kids throwing things were more distracting!" I yell at them, glaring angrily at them. This is bullshit!
I go back to holding Melissa, rubbing her hair. She's still crying but she giggles a little. I smile sadly at her. I grab my phone, never leaving it alone, and text Mom the situation. She texts back some not so pg, kinda like mine but more aggressive, messages and I send back 'I'm not sure mom, some crap.' I message, sighing.
Melissa falls asleep in my arms and I smile softly and kiss her forehead. "Sleep well sissy." I say and lay her down gently. "Okay, she's asleep let her sleep a bit." I say to them with a glare, "Can I see this teacher." I say with a angry voice.
They kinda try to say no but take me there. I go up to the teacher and glare at him, "Excuse me but what kind of teacher takes a NECESSITY from a non-verbal child?" I ask, clearly pissed off. He glares at me, "One, This is not your classroom, Two, school children shouldn't have tablets in class." They say, I smack them and that makes the people outside kinda gasp and the kids go silent.
"That is a SPEAKING DEVICE for a non-verbal autistic child. That is her NECESSITY as not everyone KNOWS sign! Your a piece of shit!" I yell at him, him glaring at me. "Go to the office young man, NOW!"
I spit at him and walk to the office, rolling my eyes at this teacher. Since when did she have such a piece of shit for a teacher? These teachers are great, and HE is NOT. I roll my eyes and sit in the office, waiting for the principal to come out.
"Asher McKenzie, If it isn't such a pleasure to see you." Mrs.Oscar, The principal, says as she frowns at me. "Same to you ma'am." I say, crossing my arms. "Want to explain why you spit at the elementary teacher?" She asks, making me glare.
"That teacher took the speaking device of my non-verbal sister. He said that school children should not have tablets in class. She has a SPEAKING DEVICE. That is a NECESSITY. She needs it. He is a piece of shit!" I say then start yelling.
She crosses her arms back, "I understand your frustration but please don't use that language. And he is our substitute teacher Asher.. He isn't her normal teacher." She says, I sigh but still huff at her.
"He needs to be taught some respect and she has a speaking device as a necessity. It should not be taken from her." I say, hitting my hands together.
"Okay we're going to call your mom, and she can pick you kids up early. How about that huh?" She asks trying to make me happy or something. "Okay." I say, getting up. "No-no stay here, I'll get your stuff." She says and I sit down, sighing and sit back down.
She eventually comes back with my stuff and Melissa, yawning as she whimpers. Mrs.Oscar gives Melissa her stuff and calls our mom. Mom eventually comes and walks in with a frown, "What the hell did my daughters speaking device get token for?!"
Mom yells, glaring at Mrs.Oscar. "It is a substitute, He doesn't believe that school children should have tablets in the classroom. I will make sure he is not a substitute here or for your daughter again. I apologize." Mrs.Oscar responds, Mom sighs and nods. "Thank you Mrs.Oscar."
I sigh and we all get in the car and head home. "I'm sorry baby." Mom says to Melissa as she looks back. "She said she will make sure he isn't your teacher anymore okay? And if he is you call me immediately." She starts towards Melissa but ends towards me.
I nod and smile at her. "Of course Mom." I say, and we drive home. The rest of the day I chill and hang with Melissa, totally dismissing that I have a phone with that one contact waiting, Leo.
