Chapter I: Jace, Architect of Thought

Chapter I

Hey guys. I’m going to tell you how my story started. I am Jace Beleren, 14 years old who lives in Ohio, Florida. My father always tells me I’m different. I should be always careful and alert. Be alert to what? I wanted to ask him that. One day, after school, I went to a mall near my home with my friends, Liliana Vess and Elspeth Tirel.  They are my childhood friends and I’m always teased as a playboy for having two girls as my best friends.  While inside the mall, a thief got Lili’s bag and I run after him and caught him. But then he hit me and I fell. Before I fell unconscious, I saw a man with weird blue aura covering him. When I woke up I was in my own room, Lili and Elspeth called my dad, and that’s the time it started. I started hearing voices from everywhere, even if there was no one around. Words just kept coming.

“I hope my son’s alright."

“I hate this guy.”

“Why is this girl so mad?”

“I wish I could get an A+.”

I’m hearing random phrases everywhere. It hurts my head so much, I screamed. My dad came running to my room.

“What’s wrong?” he asked worryingly.

I couldn’t talk clearly with this so much pain but I spoke some words.

“I…hear…..words...everywhere.” I told him difficulty.

My dad carried me to our car and we rode until we’re already outside Florida, in some forest where it’s isolated. There was a huge and beautiful house inside of the woods and we went inside. There my dad told me about our family being what they call “Blue Mages” that can use magic with connection to our color. He told me I am adept in Blue Magic. He introduced me to someone named Tezzeret.

“He is a blue mage that can help and teach you” my dad said.

“There is so much potential I see in you” Tezzeret said with incredulity in his eyes.

I was taught of a new world. In our world, there are 5 different colors of magic, Red, Blue, Green, White and Black. Each mage with different colors has different powers. Red color mages has powers that have something to do with their emotions. Blue, with their intellect. Green, with their instinct. White, with their morality and Black, with their amorality.

Each color has a “Plane”. It is a place in a different world. Only mages can go to a Plane and can only go to a Plane of their color. This is what made the Planes peaceful. I go to Tezzeret’s house every weekend. While I was just a beginner in blue magic, he first told me the basics. Tezzeret made me do different activities like mind games. We also play chess on a daily basis, every time after lunch.

“Why do we always play chess? Is chess part of my training?” I asked Tezzeret.

“Chess helps you to concentrate, improve your logic. It teaches you to play by the rules and take responsibility for your actions, how to problem solve in an uncertain environment.” He answered.

“Why do I even need to train?” I asked him.

“Mages are all over the world. And in this world, every mage even with different colors are gathered. Not every mage is a good person. This world is dangerous. This training is for you, so you can fight when needed or when the time has come” he told me with conviction.

“Then why do normal people doesn’t know about mages? They should have seen one accidentally doing some magic” I asked curiously.

“Normal people’s eyes are clouded with the fog of Ugin. They will see differently and they will think it’s not some magic” he answered.

With the help of Tezzeret, I learned to create illusions of myself, learned how to control my telepathy, control weak-minded people with my mind and produce a blue colored aura that can be shaped to anything I like and can be used as a weapon. Having these kind of abilities are awesome and fun. But knowing too much makes one suffer more.
