The Last Battle

"How many times have I tried?"

'You're pathetic!'

"Why do I still believe I can bring him back?"

'You should just stop trying!'

"Why do I even try?"

'I don't care about you!'

"I should just quit..."

Dream sat up from his bed after finally realizing what he should've done ages ago. He realized that he hated his job and there was literally no way to bring his brother back, so why does he even try anymore? Screw this balance stuff, he's no longer going to give positivity to anyone in the Multiverse, not anymore.

He got up and packed his stuff in a big bag, that's good for travelling. He took a blackened cape with a hood so no one could recognize his appearance.
A few minutes later, he was about to leave, but was stopped by Blue coming inside his room.

"Dream? Wha- Where are you going?" He asked worriedly. Dream sighed and signaled him to sit with him on the bed. Silence filled the air as Dream looked down on the floor, fiddling with his fingers a bit.

"I've decided to finally quit my job and move on. I'm going to roam the multiverse and avoid Nightmare and his crew, so I can finally live in peace without any distractions." Dream said, feeling a bit guilty. He expects Blue to retaliate his sentence, but instead he got a hug.
They stayed like that for a bit.

"You too, huh?" Blue said, which made Dream wonder what he meant. Blue smiled a bit.
"I was planning on the same thing. I want to leave my AU permanently becauce I-I have a-an issue. But I won't follow you though, I want to go my own way." Blue said, which made Dream smile, but also felt sad that they're both leaving. Not to mention, Ink being the only one left here.
What would he do without them?

Suddenly, the door burst open and Ink came into the room. "GUYS! THEY'RE ATTACKING AGAIN!" He dashed out to the living room, sparing no time to process what was going on between the two.

Both Dream and Blue groaned in annoyance, but not at Ink, at Nightmare's gang. Dream glanced at Blue and told him. "Last Battle?" Blue nodded and repeated his statement. "Last Battle." They shook their hands together and teleported to where the attack was.

They were standing face to face with each other. Nightmare had his usual grin while Dream just rolled his eyes at him. Nightmare felt a strange aura from Dream, but he shrugged it off.
"Well-" "Shut up." Before Nightmare could even start his sentence, Dream shut him up.

"How Da-" "I SAID SHUT UP!" Nightmare flinched at Dream's sudden actions.
"Are you just going to stand there and talk or are we going to fight?" Dream didn't hesitate and pulled his bow out, it was glowing a bit brighter than usual.

{Time skip cuz I don't know how to make battle scenes-}

Nightmare was panting hard, he and his gang were tired, but Dream and his team weren't. They were just staring blankly at them, not even reacting like they used to do. Ink however, was feeling a bit questioned on why those two were acting like that. But he shrugged it off.

"Since you're finally out of breath for once, me and Blue have an announcement to make." Dream stated, making everyone else look at him confused and curious on what they were going to say.

They both looked at each other and nodded. "WE QUIT!" They shouted and made everyone gasp and surprised.
"What? W-why?" Ink stuttered on his words. "You heard us, Ink. We Quit!" Blue said.

"I've realized something, Nightmare. I should just give up on trying to get you back because technically, you're the worst brother EVER! It's pointless to try and chase something that's been gone for a long time now. And now that I've realized it, I'm no longer going to stop you and your stupid gang with all of your damn shenanigans because it's NOT my job to do that!" Dream paused for a bit and threw away his cape to the ground and stomped on it.

"I've been spreading positive emotions for years now, but today I'm shutting it down..." Dream grabbed onto his crown and took it off. "PERMANENTLY!" He threw it like it was dirt and something worthless to his life.

He opened a portal behind him and didn't spare a glance at Nightmare. "Goodbye, Nightmare. This is the last time you'll see of me." He left the battlefield.

Blue then started walking away and Ink went with him through another portal. The gang was left jaw-dropped.

What were they going to do now?
